As you can imagine, this can be very difficult and boring for students who are mostly going off to the military or trade school, which mine are. \r\n\r\nI introduced them to Harry Potter and they loved it! Most have never read the JK Rowling books before and I was shocked to learn that only a small handful of students had ever watched the movies! \r\n\r\nThe students enjoyed the book and we had a popcorn party on the last two days of class to watch the movie and discuss the similarities and differences between the novel and the film. It was a great experience and I can't wait to read this again next semester. We are almost done and it has been truly an enjoyable experience. We have also been watching the amazing Peter Jackson films that correspond with the novel and they are totally enamored by the dwarves, Gandalf and other mythical creatures. \r\n\r\nStudents today are not what I would describe as \"readers\" so we have been listening to an audio recording and following along in our books. At the end of. each chapter, we answer questions, write short essays or do something fun like figure out how to get past a sleeping dragon without waking him up! \r\n\r\nThis book has really given me something special to look forward this semester and I know that we will be using these amazing books for many years to come.
