Around the time of the Chinese New Year, we read the book Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas by Natasha Yim. After reading the story, 5th graders took turns viewing the app \"Explore China\" to become immersed in a variety of locations in China. Next we read Almost Underwear: How a Piece of Cloth Traveled From Kitty Hawk to the Moon and Mars by Jonathan Roth. To supplement this space theme, I loaded \"Mission ISS (International Space Station)\" on the MetaQuest and students could float around inside the Space Station and take a space walk outside the ship and even view Earth below. Students absolutely loved this space VR experience and some students even came to the library after school to explore space more. Finally, we read Dinosaur Lady: The Daring Discoveries of Mary Anning, the First Paleontologist. Then students surrounded themselves with dinosaurs in the app \"Jurassic World.\"\r\n We will continue to use the MetaQuest with our library story time in the future and I will also invite our middle school and high school teachers to use VR with units like the Anne Frank house or anatomy. The immersive nature of this experience is something that students truly love and look forward to using to supplement what they are already learning. Thank you again for providing this amazing opportunity for our students at Seneca East!","fullyFundedDate":1763743416176,"projectUrl":"project/virtual-voyages-in-the-library-media-cen/9906814/","projectTitle":"Virtual Voyages in the Library Media Center","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schimpf","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10354952_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763574414571","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10354952"},{"teacherId":10355032,"projectId":9906910,"letterContent":"Thank so much for the donation for the kids to have headphones. It has worked out really well with what I do in the classroom. The kids have been very responsible while using them too. I am so glad you guys exist to help teachers with the little things. \r\nGoing forward, I think a lot of other teachers have seen the value in the little things that can become difficult and serve as small obstacles as we try to give students a great education. I know my classroom seems a little bit easier because of your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1763686281352,"projectUrl":"project/great-headphones-for-kids/9906910/","projectTitle":"Great Headphones for Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rogier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10355032"},{"teacherId":10357347,"projectId":9909488,"letterContent":"The document camera has been such a great tool for the students in my reading and writing classrooms. Before using the document camera, many students were unsure how to annotate or what kinds of notes to make in the margins. Seeing the process modeled live helped them better understand the concept and purpose of close reading. Students began to mirror the strategies of underlining key ideas, circling unfamiliar vocabulary, and jotting questions. Over time, they became more independent and confident readers rather than waiting for answers to be given to them. The first time we used it, we were annotating a nonfiction article to provide necessary background knowledge for my students as we were preparing to read the novel \"A Long Walk to Water\" by Linda Sue Park. The article was about the civil war of South Sudan, which plays a very significant role in the novel, so students must understand its ins and outs. Since they were able to see the annotations that I was making on the article in real time, it helped to strengthen their understanding while also giving them the confidence to make their own connections and develop personal insights within the article. \r\n\r\n I have also been using the document camera to play a game called Q-Less as a class during our enrichment time. This game involves rolling dice with letters on them, and students have to connect all the dice to spell words. Students have really enjoyed playing this word game, and the document camera allows it to be played together, helping to build up the classroom community and enhance students' teamwork skills. Students who may not typically volunteer during lessons eagerly participate during this game. They collaborate, share ideas, and celebrate one another's successes. It has become a time where students feel safe taking risks and working together, strengthening both their vocabulary skills and their sense of belonging. \r\n\r\nThe class novel \"A Long Way Down\" by Jason Reynolds has also been a huge success with my students. They were quite skeptical of it since it is written in verse and is unlike any other novel they have read before. But once we started reading, they were hooked! I selected this novel due to its main character and how different his life was from that of my students. Being in a rural community, many of my students are very unfamiliar with what life is like in an urban setting. The main character is also racially different than my students. I think exposure to main characters who are different than them is so important to help prepare them for life outside of our school and community. The novel sparked thoughtful conversations about choices and consequences. Students began asking questions and sharing insights that showed awareness of experiences different from their own. Watching them engage and enjoy a story that once seemed intimidating was incredibly rewarding. \r\n\r\nThese tools allow me to meet students where they are and create learning experiences that are interactive, inclusive, and meaningful. My goal is always to make reading and writing accessible and engaging for every learner, and these resources make that possible. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities you have provided for my students academically, socially, and emotionally through these items in my classroom. Thank you for supporting students and emphasizing the importance of education in Seneca County.","fullyFundedDate":1763806310793,"projectUrl":"project/promoting-literacy-in-middle-school/9909488/","projectTitle":"Promoting Literacy in Middle School","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Powell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10357347"},{"teacherId":10360621,"projectId":9921405,"letterContent":"These microphones have had an immediate and powerful impact on my students. Having a complete set of SM58s means every vocalist now has their own microphone, allowing them to focus fully on singing rather than sharing equipment or waiting for turns. This technology helps students hear themselves accurately, blend better as an ensemble, and develop confidence in their vocal technique. Being able to hear their own voices clearly has transformed how they listen, adjust, and grow as musicians.\r\n\r\nWhat excites them most is how professional everything feels. The sound quality is rich, clear, and consistent, and the students instantly noticed the difference. Several students who were once hesitant to sing out are now stepping forward with confidence, trusting that their voices will be supported and heard. Their sound as a group has improved dramatically, and they take real pride in how they sound together.\r\n\r\nWe are currently working to record \"Hallelujah,\" and the students are especially motivated knowing they are working toward a polished final product. When the recording is complete in March, I will do my best to share it with our donors as a way to show the direct impact of your generosity. \r\n\r\nEvery note they sing now carries the gift you gave them.\r\n\r\nThank you for providing more than microphones. With the Life Savers candies you helped provide, students have been more motivated to participate in formative questions, group discussions, and collaborative problem-solving activities. What might seem like a simple incentive has truly energized our classroom; students are eager to contribute ideas and take part in lessons with more confidence and enthusiasm than ever before. Many of our learners who are sometimes hesitant to speak up in class have found themselves raising their hands more often and taking greater ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nEven more exciting has been the addition of the 3D extruder. This piece of instructional technology has opened up a world of curiosity and creativity for students in our science and STEM units. You've provided not just supplies, but opportunities for deeper inquiry and lifelong learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students' curiosity, confidence, and classroom excitement. The Spikeball sets and fitness mat have already had a very positive impact on our middle and high school physical education classes.\r\n\r\nSpikeball, in particular, has added an exciting new element to our yard games unit. It is a fast-paced, engaging activity that students absolutely love. Many of our students were extremely excited when they saw the two Spikeball nets, as this is a game they have been asking to play for a long time. The fitness mat is also used across a variety of games and PE activities, and having a new, high-quality mat has been a tremendous help.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue providing students with opportunities to learn and participate in physical activities and skills they can use for the rest of their lives. We strongly believe in lifelong fitness and the importance of exposing students to activities that they can continue to enjoy and use to maintain their health and wellness long after they leave Seneca East.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and support of our physical education program. With only two printers before, we often had long waits and limited time for each student to work on hands-on projects. Now, with additional machines in our classroom, students are spending more time designing, iterating, and creating real objects, strengthening their skills in engineering, design, and problem-solving. These tools have turned abstract STEM concepts into concrete learning experiences; allowing students to see their ideas come to life in three dimensions, which deepens understanding and engagement. \r\n The excitement around this new technology has been palpable. Students who were once hesitant to tackle complex problems are now enthusiastically diving into design challenges, collaborating with classmates, and pushing themselves to think creatively. Some students have even taken the initiative to teach peers how to use the software and troubleshoot prints, growing confidence and leadership in the classroom. For many, 3D printing has become more than a tool; it's a way to express their creativity and explore future interests in engineering, architecture, and manufacturing. \r\n For students who may not have access to this type of technology at home, the classroom printers have been especially transformative. These learners are now able to experiment with cutting-edge tools they might otherwise never encounter, leveling the playing field and fueling aspirations that extend beyond our school walls. Parents and teachers alike have noticed how this technology encourages persistence, curiosity, and excitement for learning, making STEM subjects feel more achievable and relevant to real-world careers.","fullyFundedDate":1763572179807,"projectUrl":"project/printing-the-future-at-our-school/9907055/","projectTitle":"Printing the Future at Our School","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10355169"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_134536","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":12.5,"schoolId":134536,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Seneca East Local Middle & High School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Seneca East Local Middle & High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/seneca-east-local-school-district/seneca-east-local-middle-high-school/134536"}
