As harmonizing instruments, ukuleles have allowed students to learn about chords, accompany themselves while singing, and engage more fully in songwriting that extends beyond what is currently possible. Moreover, ukuleles provide these opportunities in ways that are accessible to all students and inclusive of all ability levels. \r\n\r\nThe ukulele is an instrument that students are highly motivated to play, both in and out of school, perhaps for the rest of their lives. By providing all students with the foundational skills to feel successful playing, this one-time investment promotes lifelong music making by a much larger population than only those students who choose to remain in the Band, Orchestra, or Choir throughout their years in the district. Because students are able to quickly play along to songs that they know and enjoy in their daily lives, engagement within the music classroom has bee increased exponentially. Additionally, such learning has meaningfully promoted social and emotional wellness within and between students.\r\n\r\nMy students and I are excited to continue learning with ukuleles next year and so grateful for your generosity. My students and I are so humbled and grateful for the kindness you've shown in making this possible, and both instruments have been such valued additions to our classroom. The drum has improved student participation in class drumming activities by eliminating challenges presented by other drums. In addition, the recorder has made a remarkable impact upon recorder instruction for students in grades 3-5.\r\n\r\nThe classroom tubano drum has been an helpful addition to our classroom instrument collection. The other drums that we have present challenges for students, especially young students. This instrument eliminates the difficulties that students have when trying to hold frame drums in their hands and play them with the proper technique. In addition, it has eliminated the difficulty of tipping the instrument away from oneself, the way that students need to do with a djembe drum. Seeing the students' faces light up when playing this instrument is such a joy. Even students as young as first grade (seen in attached photos) are easily able to play this drum. It has brought joy to our classroom, while providing easier access to those who need the support given by a drum of this design.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the tenor recorder has also been a wonderful addition to our classroom. Its large size has intrigued students who want to know all about how it is different from the size of the recorder that they play. This leads to wonderful conversation about the different sizes and ranges of different instruments. In addition, it has been a WONDERFUL tool to help students visually see how to play the notes they are learning in class. Perhaps most impactful, however, students have really benefited from being able to hear the teacher's example play in a lower register, differentiating between other students' sounds and the sound they should be aiming to meet. This, in addition to less time hearing recorders in the soprano range, has helped to reduce overstimulation for students studying recorder.\r\n\r\nMy students and I have really enjoyed the ways in which we have been able to benefit from these instruments. We thank you, full heartedly, for your generous support of students.
