Your contribution has immediately transformed the learning experience for all of our students. You may use technology like this daily, but you might be surprised to know how essential and specialized these tools are in a school setting. Unlike simple calculators, the graphing and scientific capabilities of these devices are helping our students visualize complex mathematical concepts. For instance, they are now able to instantly graph quadratic equations, allowing them to see how changes to the coefficients in the equation directly affect the shape and position of the parabola. This hands-on visualization moves math from an abstract concept on a whiteboard to a dynamic, interactive tool they can explore, significantly improving their understanding of functions, data analysis, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of these new calculators for the students is undoubtedly the speed and complexity they can now handle, which lets them tackle more challenging, real-world problems. They feel empowered to attempt problems that were previously too time-consuming or difficult to approach by hand. We have already seen a few students especially warm up to this new technology. For example, Jokary, who is often quiet during instruction, has blossomed. She has a natural spatial-visual intelligence, and the graphing functions have given her a way to express and prove her understanding without relying on verbal explanations she finds challenging. Similarly, Christian, who struggled with arithmetic speed, now uses the calculator as a reliable tool that levels the playing field, allowing him to focus on the higher-level logic of the problem instead of getting bogged down in computations. This technology is truly making advanced mathematics accessible and exciting for every student in the room.","fullyFundedDate":1746785501263,"projectUrl":"project/stem-storytellers-need-calculators/9151489/","projectTitle":"STEM Storytellers Need Calculators!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kirby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8180535_orig.jpg?crop=1743,1743,x1128,y151&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1637005366452","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8180535"},{"teacherId":3008882,"projectId":9506673,"letterContent":"Your gift of Lego for our Advisory is appreciated by all of my students. We are wrapping up Part II this week and the 10th graders are enjoying Noor, Sal and Misbah's stories so far. This week, we shared our family story interview assignments in exhibition style and reflected on the power that stories that are passed down over generations can have. We also did mini-debates in small groups now that the external conflicts for Noor and Sal are starting to build.\r\n\r\nOf all the books we've read so far this year, the students are certainly the most engaged and excited to keep reading Taher's work in English 2. Some of my Muslim students have enjoyed the representation and compared Noor and Misbah's religious practices to their own. Many of my students are immigrants and can relate to the characters who are first and second generation immigrants themselves. It seems like regardless of identity, many students are more broadly connecting to the struggles both teens are going through in and out of school, and of course, they are heavily invested in the building love story. \r\n\r\nA few direct quotes from students today about what they are appreciating: \r\n- Emam: \"I like that the book is easy to follow with the different perspectives and the use of multiple perspectives increases our understanding of the characters.\"\r\n- Sahai: \"We like the characters because they are interesting and dynamic!\"\r\n- Chris: \"Even though it's fiction, it feels really realistic and relatable.\"\r\n- Eric: \"I like that the book provides interesting perspectives of all the character that we wouldn't have gotten from just one narrator.\"\r\n- Fred: \"I just want to know if Sal and Noor are gonna end up together.\"\r\n\r\nThank you so much again for your generosity and please enjoy our photoshoot with the books with Friday silliness!","fullyFundedDate":1740285173376,"projectUrl":"project/reading-learning-from-all-my-rage/9112740/","projectTitle":"Reading & Learning From All My Rage","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Freifelder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4846656_orig.jpg?crop=1249,1249,x798,y286&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1642124817272","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4846656"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32200","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1225,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":36,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"58.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.8,"schoolId":32200,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Academy at Palumbo on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Academy at Palumbo","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/philadelphia-city-school-district/academy-at-palumbo/32200"}
