I had never heard of the Donors Choose until I attended a training. A fellow teacher was sharing her experience with Donors Choose and how her class was blessed by receiving some essential materials needed in her class. She encouraged me to visit the website and create a project of my own. I teach at a Title I school and our students come from low-income homes and are limited to many things. I wanted to provide materials that would benefit them using their creativity and imagination. Students learn to play and these materials would support their learning process of the alphabet and creation. The materials included in my project were completely out of my budget, as I often find myself purchasing necessary items out of pocket. Thanks to your generosity, it was possible to obtain a set of the Giant Polydron Building Manipulatives through School Specialty, and the Imagination Design Builders from Lake Shore. The polydron set allows students to problem solve and review our knowledge of the 2D shapes that have been introduced this school year. They can create things that are bigger in size than they are and share their knowledge with their peers through play. Furthermore, the Design Builders have endless possibilities for our students. They can create anything they can imagine. Flowers, stick people, shapes, bikes, letters and so much more! My students have enjoyed playing and learning with these materials so much. Both sets have become favorite free choice centers in my classroom and have become such a great support for their academic progress. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity.
