This weekend the temperature dropped dramatically and school was even closed today due to the wintery mix and unsafe conditions to drive. My first set of denim round chair pockets were purchased during COVID so that my students could keep all of their materials that need in their own chair pocket instead of in community buckets for their table group. Then, years later, I was able to purchase a new set of black ones that went along more with the colors of my classroom. This year, when I found out I may have up to 24 students, I knew I needed a few more, as well as a couple of additional ones if my numbers surpassed 24. Thankfully, with this Donors Choose project, I was able to add a few more to our classroom and now have exactly what we need to help my student have their materials close at hand and stay organized. I also use one at the front of the classroom for when I sit to read aloud to the class or if we have someone come up to share, like our Star of the Week. I was worried when I found out that my class size would be significantly larger than the last few years, but these stools really helped! These books are something I will continue to use for many years to come!\r\nWe LOVED our new glow books. This was the first time I had a \"Glow Day\" to celebrate the last day of school. I absolutely love this tradition and it is so memorable for my students. I record my voice reading the book and add a QR code inside the cover. When I give the copy of the book to my new first graders, first I explain that the book is for them to keep and then I point out that they can listen to me read to them at home by scanning the QR code. They absolutely love this! This was even more meaningful because one of my students, his entire family is Deaf. So not only could his family sign the words, but he could hear me read to him! Another family commented a month later that their son thought my voice was so soothing, that a few days after receiving the book he wasn't feeling well so he requested listening to me read the book. I have never thought to label birthday bags ahead of time and have something where the students could put all of the birthday goodies inside! I love being organized like that!
