Several students didn't quite grasp the concept that not everyone celebrates the same thing. This way, they were exposed to different holidays and we were able to make connections to similarities and differences. Students noticed that all of the holidays we covered included traditions, food, family, and light. Having an art activity to go along with each holiday was a huge hit! They immediately put their gloves, hats and scarves on (even though the temperature was in the 60's!). They even wore them after school on the playground where former students of mine immediately recognized their gifts and let them know that they, too, were once in my class. \r\nMany students continued to wear their gifts when the temperature lowered upon our return after Winter Break. This weekend the temperature dropped dramatically and school was even closed today due to the wintery mix and unsafe conditions to drive. Parents emailed me to let me know how thankful they were for these gifts! Students wore them as they played in the snow.\r\nThank you for your help and support in funding this project! In the state of Texas, it gets so hot, especially on these field trips! My first set of denim round chair pockets were purchased during COVID so that my students could keep all of their materials that need in their own chair pocket instead of in community buckets for their table group. Then, years later, I was able to purchase a new set of black ones that went along more with the colors of my classroom. This year, when I found out I may have up to 24 students, I knew I needed a few more, as well as a couple of additional ones if my numbers surpassed 24. Thankfully, with this Donors Choose project, I was able to add a few more to our classroom and now have exactly what we need to help my student have their materials close at hand and stay organized. Several of the previous stools I purchased in the past were on their last leg(s), literally! Two had broke and two others were bent and about to break. I opted for these that had a square base, but are just as comfortable and stack easily. We use them at our back table daily for small group sessions or one on one with a volunteer. I also use one at the front of the classroom for when I sit to read aloud to the class or if we have someone come up to share, like our Star of the Week. I was worried when I found out that my class size would be significantly larger than the last few years, but these stools really helped! Students were able to be successful finding information they were researching on specific animals. These new books with photographs were so engaging and inspired all of the students to locate the answers to their questions. I was able to help direct students to find books they could read so many students were successful on their own. These books are something I will continue to use for many years to come!\r\nWe LOVED our new glow books. This was the first time I had a \"Glow Day\" to celebrate the last day of school. The stories helped introduce the topic and teach us about all different animals that glow.\r\nBarnyard Fun definitely helped the students understand how April Fool's Day isn't about hurting others, but just having a little fun. I absolutely love this tradition and it is so memorable for my students. I record my voice reading the book and add a QR code inside the cover. When I give the copy of the book to my new first graders, first I explain that the book is for them to keep and then I point out that they can listen to me read to them at home by scanning the QR code. They absolutely love this! This was even more meaningful because one of my students, his entire family is Deaf. So not only could his family sign the words, but he could hear me read to him! Another family commented a month later that their son thought my voice was so soothing, that a few days after receiving the book he wasn't feeling well so he requested listening to me read the book. The labels were used to prepare new Writer's Notebooks, Science Notebooks, and Math Notebooks. The paw print stickers are used when we reach our goals to add to our 100 goals chart! We are already on our way to 200! The birthday bags, pencils, bookmarks and stickers have been a huge hit! I have never thought to label birthday bags ahead of time and have something where the students could put all of the birthday goodies inside! I love being organized like that! The \"Better Together\" bracelets were a perfect craft to complete on the first day of school. They set the tone to help build our class community! This helps provide questions for them to ask which make the lessons engaging for the students.
