At the start of the year, we had fewer than 300 books for 700 students. Growing our collection to match our enrollment has completely changed what access looks like on our campus. Even more exciting, our students consistently have the highest number of monthly checkouts of any high school in our district, even though many of those schools have about four books per student. Our kids truly love to read, and now they have more opportunities to do so.\r\n\r\nThe books you provided are some of the most checked-out titles in our entire library. The Shatter Me series has had two especially dedicated readers who flew through every book in just a few weeks. The My Hero Academia manga, The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels, American Born Chinese, Crepúsculo, and A Cinco Pies de Ti are all among our most popular titles by total checkouts. Students are connecting with these books in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nThey are analyzing character growth, exploring identity and culture, strengthening visual literacy skills through graphic storytelling, and building vocabulary in both English and Spanish. And while improving test scores is not the primary goal of building literacy, we have already seen evidence from our interim assessment data to suggest that our end of year English exam scores may be higher than initially projected. I like to believe that's partially because more of our students are reading for pleasure than ever before.\r\n\r\nYour donation also helped us create a more inviting space. With the new display stands, we have been able to highlight books for Lunar New Year, Black History Month, and Valentine's Day, making the library feel vibrant and responsive to our community. There is a real buzz around reading right now. Students are recommending books to friends, stopping by just to see what is new, and expressing genuine gratitude for the expanded collection.
