The new collection of fiction and nonfiction books has expanded the types of conversations we are able to have every single day. When I introduced the books, students were eager to explore them, noticing familiar topics as well as brand-new ones they had never encountered before. Several students asked, \"Can we read this next?\" before I had even finished unpacking the box.\r\n\r\nThese texts have strengthened our reading instruction in meaningful ways. During read-aloud time, students practice visualizing scenes, describing character traits using evidence, and identifying problems and solutions within stories. With nonfiction texts, they are learning how to ask questions before, during, and after reading, as well as how to pull key facts and summarize important information. We also use these books to model fluent reading, expression, and thoughtful discussion. Reading in our classroom is interactive — students turn and talk, jot down thinking, and build on one another's ideas. The new books have provided fresh opportunities to model these skills with high-interest content.\r\n\r\nI have noticed that some of my quieter students are especially connecting with the new selections. Having a wider variety of topics and perspectives has helped more students see their interests reflected in our classroom library. It has been wonderful to watch students return to a book we read together and confidently reread parts on their own. Your support has helped create a classroom where books are not just lessons, but experiences that spark curiosity, confidence, and a deeper love of learning. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1767576852885,"projectUrl":"project/stories-that-spark-curiosity-belonging/9978591/","projectTitle":"Stories That Spark Curiosity, Belonging, and a Love of Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2079324_orig.jpg?crop=232,232,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750966365587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2079324"},{"teacherId":2079324,"projectId":9978019,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my first and second grade students now have access to a rich collection of engaging fiction and nonfiction read-aloud books. When the books arrived, it felt like a celebration day in our classroom. Students immediately wanted to flip through the pages, study the covers, and make predictions about what each book might be about. The excitement was genuine — new books always feel like new adventures waiting to happen.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active and thoughtful. During read-aloud time, students practice important comprehension skills such as making predictions, identifying story elements, comparing characters, and determining the main idea in nonfiction texts. We pause to discuss new vocabulary, ask questions, and connect what we're reading to our own lives and to other subjects we are studying. The nonfiction books have been especially powerful during science and social studies lessons, helping students learn how to identify text features like headings, captions, diagrams, and glossaries. These skills are building strong, confident readers who know how to think deeply about a text.\r\n\r\nSome of my more hesitant readers have been especially drawn to the new books. Having fresh, high-interest texts has encouraged them to participate more in discussions and even revisit the stories during independent reading time. It is incredible to watch students light up when they see themselves reflected in a character or become fascinated by a real-world topic. Your generosity is not just adding books to our shelves — it is expanding imaginations, strengthening literacy skills, and fostering a true love of reading. Thank you for investing in my students and in the power of stories.","fullyFundedDate":1767392767424,"projectUrl":"project/building-curious-confident-readers-thro/9978019/","projectTitle":"Building Curious, Confident Readers Through Read-Alouds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2079324_orig.jpg?crop=232,232,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750966365587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2079324"},{"teacherId":2079324,"projectId":9974572,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my first and second grade students are strengthening foundational reading skills in a hands-on, engaging way. When the new phonemic awareness materials arrived, my students were immediately curious. As soon as I introduced the magnetic Elkonin boards and word mapping paddles, hands shot into the air. They couldn't wait to try them. What might look like simple boards to an adult felt like \"real reading tools\" to them — and that excitement matters.\r\n\r\nWe are using the Elkonin boxes daily during our phonics block. Students segment and blend sounds using the magnetic boards, physically pushing a marker into each box as they isolate phonemes. This concrete movement has made a huge difference for my struggling readers. I watched one student who often hesitates during whole-group reading confidently tap out and map each sound in a word, then look up and say, \"Oh! I can read that!\" Moments like that are exactly why these materials are so impactful. They make abstract skills visible and manageable.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using the boards to map more complex words as we move into blends, digraphs, and multisyllabic decoding. They are also beginning to apply their sound-mapping skills to their writing, stretching out words independently instead of waiting for help. Your generosity is directly building their confidence as readers and writers. Thank you for investing in their literacy foundation and giving them tools that truly make learning stick.","fullyFundedDate":1767130359810,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-literacy-tools-for-growing-read/9974572/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Literacy Tools for Growing Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2079324_orig.jpg?crop=232,232,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750966365587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2079324"},{"teacherId":2079324,"projectId":9524608,"letterContent":"Thanks to these new books, my students are building far more than just reading stamina—they're developing core skills like comprehension, vocabulary, inference, and critical thinking. The texts introduce rich language, varied sentence structures, and engaging storylines that invite students to ask questions, make predictions, and connect what they read to their own lives. Many of the books also support social-emotional learning by exploring themes such as kindness, perseverance, and problem-solving, which naturally lead to meaningful classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. Students read independently, in small groups, and together as a class. You'll often see children curled up with a book they chose themselves, eagerly turning pages, or excitedly whispering to a partner about a favorite part. We pause to talk about characters, practice reading strategies, and celebrate growth—whether that's finishing a first chapter book or confidently sharing a response out loud.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously reluctant readers have been especially drawn to these new books. Having fresh, high-interest texts has helped them see reading as something enjoyable rather than intimidating. One student now asks to reread favorite stories during free time, while another proudly recommends books to classmates. Your generosity has helped create a classroom where students feel excited, capable, and motivated to read every day.","fullyFundedDate":1763927635381,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-eager-learners/9524608/","projectTitle":"Books For Eager Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2079324_orig.jpg?crop=232,232,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750966365587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2079324"},{"teacherId":9557178,"projectId":9263741,"letterContent":"A Heartfelt Thank You: Seeing the Impact of Your Generosity!\r\nDear Wonderful Donors,\r\n\r\nI am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contributions to our classroom project. Thanks to your support, our students now have the engaging, hands-on learning tools that were previously just a dream. This project has truly revitalized our classroom and has had a noticeable positive effect on student excitement and engagement.\r\n\r\nUsing Our New Supplies\r\nOur new supplies, including the high-quality manipulative sets, are being used every single day! We've transformed our independent learning hub with the new games. Students now choose to go there during independent math time, and their concentration has visibly improved. The manipulative sets, like the mathematical games are integral to our math lessons. This tactile approach has made abstract concepts accessible and fun for all learners.\r\n\r\nThe Moment the Materials Arrived\r\nThe reaction of the students when they first saw the materials was absolutely priceless. When we unveiled the boxes, there were gasps of excitement and a few cheers—it truly felt like a holiday morning! Seeing the students' genuine joy and the immediate, enthusiastic way they incorporated the materials into their work was one of the most rewarding moments of the school year. Your generosity didn't just provide supplies; it provided excitement, inspiration, and a renewed love for learning.\r\n\r\nOur Next Steps\r\n We are focusing on incorporating mathematical principles (scale and ratio) and persuasive writing skills. I know that with the quality of the materials you provided, the final designs will be spectacular.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for investing in the future of these bright young minds.
