We are so blessed to have individuals such as yourselves who support our learning and success. Since receiving the pencils and glue sticks, students have been able to accomplish so much. From continuing to create interactive notebooks—using the glue to insert activities and notes into their journals—to practicing their writing skills each and every day, these supplies have made a meaningful difference.\r\n\r\nThese materials have been a tremendous help not only to students in my classroom, but to my entire department. One specific moment that stands out was when a student asked if they could keep a pencil in order to complete work in their other classes. I didn't ask why they didn't have one because, in the past, many students become defensive due to not having the money to buy supplies. Instead, I was more than happy to say, \"Yes, of course—you may keep it.\" The student smiled and thanked me for giving them something as simple as a pencil. Sometimes the smallest things make our students' day.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived in my classroom, students were shocked by the number of pencils and glue sticks we received. They were amazed by your generosity and commented on how special it is that there are people who care enough to help others. After testing, students will have the opportunity to use their pencils and glue sticks to complete their final project. Students may choose to create a song based on a particular time period or event—which they will first write and plan before producing their music video—or they may create a tri-fold poster highlighting the event or time period, using both the glue and pencils to complete their research and presentation.\r\n\r\nOnce again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting my students and me. Your generosity truly makes a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1764698573283,"projectUrl":"project/sharpen-minds/9582020/","projectTitle":"Sharpen Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Edwards","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10172307"},{"teacherId":7618835,"projectId":9582008,"letterContent":"My students have been able to continue the learning process with a lighter burden due to the contributions given by the Donors Choose community, Kleenex Brand, Gift of Learning DC support pages, and SAISD Foundation. Students no longer have to worry about having the appropriate materials for class and/or the school day. They are more focused throughout the lesson and aren't distracted by interrupting their learning and the learning of others to ask for materials.\r\n\r\nThe spirals I was able to provide for my students has allowed them an opportunity to be successful in more ways than simply academically. Some of my students want to help others by passing out the spirals to students as they come in or placing the spirals on their desks so other students have them when they walk in the room. There have been students who were hesitant to ask or get a spiral for themselves, however, once they witnessed the other students getting them, this eased their tension or anxiety about getting a spiral.\r\n\r\nEvery school has those students who are transfers from other schools and these students may show up without having the proper materials. This creates a preparation curve which slows down the ability for these transfer students to be successful. Having these spirals eliminates this curve for the student and allows them to immediately start the process of being successful. A secondary effect for these students is, they walk into a school and/or class room and they are in an environment where they are met with care.","fullyFundedDate":1764703548670,"projectUrl":"project/ready-set-write/9582008/","projectTitle":"Ready, Set, Write!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Heine","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7618835_orig.jpg?crop=1123,1123,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673377799941","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7618835"},{"teacherId":10309000,"projectId":9818344,"letterContent":"Thank you for believing in our students and investing in this transformative project. Your generous contribution has created something truly special in our classroom and school community. We now have a beautiful, peaceful outdoor learning space that has become a sanctuary for our urban students—many of whom have limited opportunities to connect with nature. Over the past weeks, we've watched our students step into this green space with wonder and curiosity. During our first outdoor lesson, a student who typically struggles with focus sat quietly among the plants and said, \"I didn't know we could have this here.\" That single moment captured everything this project represents. Our students are now conducting hands-on investigations about local ecosystems, observing how pollution and urban sprawl affect the plants and insects around them, and most importantly, they're developing a genuine sense of stewardship for their environment. The space has become more than a classroom—it's a refuge where students can decompress, read independently, and complete their work in a calm, beautiful setting that fuels their creativity and well-being.\r\n\r\nThe impact extends far beyond academics. We've noticed remarkable changes in student behavior and engagement. Students who rarely participate in traditional lessons are now leading discussions about environmental sustainability. They're asking questions like, \"What can we do to help?\" and \"Why is this plant struggling?\" These are the questions that spark lifelong environmental advocates. During our pollution unit, students designed their own solutions to local environmental challenges, and the authenticity of learning in this space—seeing real plants, real soil, real ecosystems—made their work feel urgent and meaningful in ways a textbook never could.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps are equally exciting. We're planning a community garden component where students will grow native plants to support local pollinators, and we're developing a citizen science project where students will track ecosystem changes throughout the seasons. Your investment didn't just create a garden; it opened a door to deeper learning, environmental consciousness, and a precious space where every student—especially those in our urban community—can find peace, purpose, and connection to the natural world.","fullyFundedDate":1764698462043,"projectUrl":"project/high-school-community-garden/9818344/","projectTitle":"High School Community Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Khan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10309000"},{"teacherId":9054410,"projectId":9627075,"letterContent":"I want to express my sincerest gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom project, \"Bring History to Life.\" Because of your support, my students now have an engaging, hands-on military game that has completely transformed the way they interact with our history curriculum.\r\n\r\nIn a world where history can sometimes feel like a series of dry dates and distant names, this game has provided a vital bridge to the past. Since introducing it to the classroom, I have seen my students use their critical thinking skills, and many students are asking questions about the weaponry used. The clay has been absolutely transformative for my ceramics and sculpture students. It has allowed us to move beyond simply practicing techniques and to focus on truly ambitious, year-long projects.\r\nStudents produced full sets of nested bowls, plates, and mugs, giving students a genuine sense of creating a cohesive, usable collection. Students were also able to explore challenging forms like large coil-built containers and complex, lidded jars on the pottery wheel. \r\nThe students' reaction to the arrival of the new clay was priceless! When I rolled the cart full of boxes into the studio, there was an initial moment of quiet, followed by a collective gasp. They didn't just see clay; they saw opportunity—for all of the incredible work they would now be able to make. \r\nThe students are currently in the most exciting and critical stage of their clay projects: the firing process and glazing. All of the bone-dry clay pieces (like their containers and dinnerware sets) have gone into the kiln for their first firing. This transforms the fragile clay into a durable, porous ceramic known as bisque ware.\r\nThe next step is for students to apply glazes—the liquid mixture of minerals and chemicals that turn into a colorful, glassy surface in the final firing. They are currently researching different glaze application methods (dipping, brushing, pouring) and selecting color palettes that will best enhance the form and texture of their pieces.\r\nThe final step will be glaze firing. The pieces will go into the kiln a final time at much higher temperatures (up to 2300 degreees) to melt the glaze into its permanent, brilliant finish. This is the moment of truth where all their hard work is revealed!\r\nWe can't wait to share photos of the finished, colorful, and functional works of art with our donors when they come out of the final glaze firing!","fullyFundedDate":1707158502770,"projectUrl":"project/clay-for-class/7934427/","projectTitle":"Clay for Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. O'Neill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8887383_orig.jpg?crop=594,594,x94,y20&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724618020731","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8887383"},{"teacherId":9245786,"projectId":8612921,"letterContent":"Our students were beyond excited when the new Transmission Drain Pan, Oil Lift Drain, and Oil Drain Splash Pad Mat arrived!
