These hands-on tools are allowing my students to explore early science and engineering concepts such as magnetism, balance, motion, and cause and effect—all through purposeful play.\r\n\r\nWe are using these materials during STEM centers and Friday choice rotations. One of the most meaningful moments occurred during a magnet exploration center, when students worked in small groups to design and build towers using the magnetic blocks. As structures collapsed, students didn't give up—they redesigned, adjusted, and tried again. During robot stacking challenges, students collaborated, problem-solved together, and explained their thinking using vocabulary in both English and Spanish.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. Their eyes lit up, questions poured out, and many shared that they had never used materials like these before. The Hot Wheels track kits quickly became a favorite as students made predictions about speed and motion before testing their ideas.\r\n\r\nNext, students will apply what they have learned by designing their own STEM challenge stations. They will plan, test, reflect, and revise their designs while strengthening teamwork, creativity, and confidence. These resources continue to show my students that learning is an active process—and that mistakes are simply part of discovery.","fullyFundedDate":1763582891971,"projectUrl":"project/stem-20/9891612/","projectTitle":"STEM 2.0","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Martinez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1581802_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720458772009","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1581802"},{"teacherId":1581802,"projectId":9751038,"letterContent":"When the items for our project arrived, my students were eager to find out what was inside the big box. I told them they'd have to wait—it was a surprise! At home, my own children helped me wash and carefully wrap each blanket. Having them be part of this process made it extra special for me, and it was a beautiful way to connect my family to my classroom.\r\n\r\nWe brought the wrapped blankets to school and placed them under our classroom Christmas tree. That morning, my students walked in wide-eyed, wondering what the wrapped gifts were. Later that afternoon, I told them the gifts were for them—and the room instantly lit up with excitement. Each child received a package, and together they opened them all at once.\r\n\r\nOne student shouted with joy, \"It's a blanket!\" while others chimed in, exclaiming how soft and cozy theirs were. One even said, \"It smells so good!\" The joy and appreciation in that moment were unforgettable.\r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart for making this possible. When we do the unit about the earth, we will use the clay to make replicas of the inside of the earth. We will also be making dioramas of animal habitats when we get to that unit. \r\nMy favorite unit is the space unit. We actually get to start that unit on Wednesday. Thanks to your generosity, we now have headphones that make learning more personalized, focused, and engaging.\r\nIn reading, students use a program called Imagine Learning, which supports them in practicing sounds, syllables, and orthographic patterns. The built-in microphones on the headphones have been especially powerful—students can record their voices, listen back, and build confidence as readers while also improving fluency and comprehension.\r\nDuring math, the headphones are used with IXL, a program that gives students targeted practice on specific skills. The headphones help them concentrate, block out distractions, and fully focus on the areas they need to strengthen.\r\nThese headphones have quickly become an essential tool in our classroom. Each student couldn't wait to find their number and admire the custom design. Our art teacher commented on how much easier it has been to keep supplies organized, and students now feel a sense of ownership as they carry their special bags each week.\r\nLooking ahead, we'll be using the acrylic paint pens for holiday crafts, starting with Christmas ornaments that students will decorate and take home for their families. They are already brainstorming designs and can't wait to get creative. And at the end of the year, the popsicle holders will be a fun gift that helps us celebrate all of their hard work.\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students are not only learning important academic skills but also experiencing joy, pride, and creativity in their daily routines.
