As a teacher of US Government and US History, having access to the \"headlines\" of the day allows me to reference how things in the past affect today's current events. I frequently refer to the news headlines on cable news as ai teach US government, policy, the branches of government, etc. It really makes the curriculum come more alive for students. (Additionally, if a student is zoning out in class, they are always absorbing something if they are watching the news channels!)\r\n\r\nIn our school we have access to a specific list of cable channels, including CNN & Fox News. I consistently switch between the two to give students different perspectives on the headlines. This also gives me the opportunity to discuss how ideological differences- even among \"news' networks- can impact how Americans understand and absorb the news of the day. \r\n\r\nUltimately, having this TV in my classroom has an awesome impact on the academics of my classroom.
