In a screen-obsessed world, it is refreshing to see students working together on a non-digital task!\r\n\r\nThe coloring books and colored pencils are also a hit - another option students have on Mindful Activity days is coloring. Coloring the elaborate patterned designs from the coloring book pages, helps students relax while they practice mindfulness. Some of the coloring books have helpful quotes about the importance of staying calm, breathing mindfully, and remaining present.\r\n\r\nThe essential oils, yoga books and affirmation cards all add to the calming and restorative environment of our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1733288286309,"projectUrl":"project/help-teens-improve-their-health-through/8656361/","projectTitle":"Help Teens Improve their Health through Yoga and Mindfulness!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Momplaisir","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9665903_orig.jpg?crop=1392,1392,x491,y382&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723687265875","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9665903"},{"teacherId":256360,"projectId":8991262,"letterContent":"I really enjoy working with students on their reading skills, however it can feel like an uphill climb at times. Reading is hard and they don't enjoy it. I know that I can help them be more successful in life with better reading skills and I just can't give up. It makes so much difference when you have the right tools to engage students and help them feel good about how they're spending their time. \r\n\tThe Jason Reynolds books have become an invaluable resource in my classroom. We've started reading one of the books and on days that we're not reading the students ask if we can make time to read--it's amazing. I'm also able to connect many reading activities to the books so the students feel engaged and complete the activities with confidence. One of the things I tell them all the time is that no one likes to read anything that they don't find interesting. Now I have proof that there are stories that are interesting to them.\r\n\tMy students have been very excited since receiving the books. They are very colorful and there are so many, which also means the story won't end. Jason Reynolds writes books that students can connect to with a lot of emotions and action. They can't wait to find out what happens next. \r\n\tAs a class we are reading one book and will read another in the next quarter. While there are four different books, some of the characters are the same and the story continues. Students can read one book or continue onto another. The last quarter of school can be filled with excitement for the upcoming summer and an end to the school year. A Jason Reynolds book will help to focus the class and ensure that we can take advantage of the short time we'll have to engage in the curriculum. \r\n\tThank you so much for investing in my students!","fullyFundedDate":1734124351656,"projectUrl":"project/jason-reynolds-high-interest-books-fo/8991262/","projectTitle":"Jason Reynolds -- High Interest Books for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heatherly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/256360"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45004","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2450,"numTeachers":191,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":69.7,"schoolId":45004,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Lakes High School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"South Lakes High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/fairfax-county-public-schools/south-lakes-high-school/45004"}
