Because of you, I was able to select and purchase multiple learning materials that benefit children in kindergarten through fifth grade. \r\nMy students are enjoying various sensory bins, categorization manipulatives, cards, and board games. These items allow me to elicit expressive language skills, including sentence structure/grammar, basic and linguistic concepts, and turn taking. The WH question bingo and sequencing story pictured have been excellent tools for fostering receptive language and auditory memory. Other tools have helped children learn to use specific speech sounds to improve their intelligibility.\r\nI truly appreciate you selecting my project. I am so excited to share that your donations have enabled me to create a variety of adapted books that can be read and experienced with my students. An adapted book provides moveable picture supports for key vocabulary within a text. A student can match items in the story to icons, and this assists in their use and identification of vocabulary. These interactive pieces also keep students engaged and attentive to a shared book experience which is not always a preferred task. \r\n\r\nMy students' recent favorite titles have included \"Brown Bear, Brown Bear\" and \"The Mitten.\" I truly appreciate watching my students with special needs be able to access literacy and visuals to support learning. We can discuss story elements, including characters, setting, action, problems and solutions at a level that is easier for each student to understand. The picture supports provide a manner by which many non-speaking students can respond to questions, label or comment about a book!\r\nThank you for helping my dream of an adapted book library come true for my students.
