I expected them to lose interest and for the novelty to wear off, but the opposite has happened; word has spread, and my classroom has become quite the hotspot at the school since setting up the cozy corner. \r\n\r\nI have students packed onto the beanbags, playing with fidgets, choosing the colors of the lamps, and cozied up with blankets in every single class period every single day. Students I don't even have come visit between classes to sit in the comfy chairs for a few minutes before their next class. Kids I have previously struggled to reach have started speaking out and participating more in this more comfortable environment. The positive impact this space has had on my classroom and my students is nearly immeasurable. When I brought everything in, they were ECSTATIC. They unpacked all the boxes and helped me set everything up, and wanted to know exactly who made this happen for them. They were so grateful and impressed that people where willing to give them such a cool gift! \r\n\r\nSomething unexpected that I have seen from this space is growing social skills and responsibility. I set rules for the space: no eating, no drinks, and you must ask permission to use a fidget (for inventory purposes :)). I explained to them where I got these materials, and they were amazed. They view the space with a near reverance and hold each other accountable for following the rules. If a student forgets, and gets out a snack while sitting in a bean bag, his friends gently remind him of the rules. I also have students taking responsibilty for keeping it tidy and organized. I almost never have to actually clean the area because they notice when it needs some TLC and take initiative to care for the space. They shake the rug out, they fold the blankets, they fluff the bean bags, and they make sure it is ready for the next class to enjoy. This space is important to them, and I am so proud of them for showing such maturity and gratitude. \r\n\r\nI am blown away by the impact this has had on our daily routine. My students and I are so incredibly grateful for your generosity and the part you played in making this classroom the safe space that it is. Thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1763961636402,"projectUrl":"project/allsopps-cozy-corner-for-sleepless-stud/9534812/","projectTitle":"Allsopp’s Cozy Corner for Sleepless Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Allsopp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10111579"},{"teacherId":5507342,"projectId":9227204,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the books for my classroom.
