Students worked together to design buildings, parks, and bridges—bringing their imaginations to life through teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. Along the way, they connected their designs to stories we read in the library and reflected on how communities are built. It was inspiring to see them fully engaged, meeting AASL library standards while developing real-world skills and a sense of pride in their creations.\r\n\r\nTheir excitement was contagious when the students saw all the boxes and materials! The students' eyes lit up with curiosity and joy. They could hardly wait to start building. Many immediately began brainstorming what they could make—houses, towers, even a soccer stadium! It was such a joyful moment of discovery and anticipation, and I could feel their gratitude and enthusiasm filling the library.\r\n\r\nNext, students will use what they learned from building Cardboard City to explore community design and storytelling. They'll write short narratives about life inside their city—who lives there, what happens, and how people work together. We will connect this creative writing with informational texts about real-world cities and architecture.
