Your donation has already begun to make a meaningful impact on my students and the way they experience literature.\r\n\r\nIn our ELA classroom, reading is an active, analytical, and collaborative process. Students don't just read stories—they investigate them. With Mexican Gothic, we are exploring essential skills such as analyzing atmosphere, tracking character development, interpreting symbolism, and identifying the unique features of Gothic literature. This text gives students rich opportunities to study tone, author's craft, and the relationships between setting, culture, and theme.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom often looks like a mix of quiet independent reading, small-group discussions, and hands-on activities where students annotate, question, predict, and make connections. With this novel, students are especially engaged during our \"Gothic mood\" analysis sessions; pulling out specific words and phrases that build suspense and discussing how Silvia Moreno-Garcia modernizes the traditional Gothic genre.\r\n\r\nA few students in particular have been especially drawn to the book. Several of my reluctant readers have expressed surprise at how quickly they were pulled into the eerie atmosphere. One student who usually prefers nonfiction told me, \"I didn't think I'd like this, but the setting feels like a character—I can actually picture it.\" Another student, who loves horror films, has been excitedly comparing the novel's imagery to cinematic techniques.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has allowed my students to experience a transformative text—one that challenges, excites, and expands their understanding of literature.
