When working with middle schoolers, I am constantly hearing \"I overslept\" when asking why they are late to school. Sometimes students arrive to school without their laptop, books, notebooks, pens or pencils. Often the reason is because they don't have a way to carry everything.\r\n\r\nAfter further questioning, I have found that many of our students have parents that leave for work before they get up for school and the students have nobody to help them wake up on time and no alarm clock. In addition, their families don't always have the money to provide all of the supplies needed. Our district provided school supplies for every student this school year, but some students don't have a backpack to carry those supplies between classes and from school to home and back.\r\n\r\nThe alarm clocks and backpacks provide a way for these students to wake up on time, catch their buses, or rides, and leave their homes on time in order to make it to school without being late and missing valuable learning time. Plus they will be able to carry all of the tools they need to succeed in school.","fullyFundedDate":1747342315409,"projectUrl":"project/rise-and-shine-alarm-clocks-and-backpack/9177277/","projectTitle":"Rise and Shine Alarm Clocks and Backpacks!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Green","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6938678"},{"teacherId":3281676,"projectId":8834923,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations to the MCMS Library to help our struggling readers find reading joy in our school library. \r\n\r\nWe recently began our school-wide Read-a-Thon where staff and students \"compete\" with each to read the most books from February to June. If students reach their reading goal of 2025 books they get a movie day with popcorn, while the staff have a goal of 225 books to earn a trip from the coffee truck. The goal of the Read-a-Thon is to trick our school community to find reading joy, which is reading for the sake of reading for pleasure. Furthermore, we believe any reading is reading, regardless of language, format, or medium.\r\n\r\nA key way to bring our school community reading joy is through a collection of books and author voices that represent our diverse reading community.
