We are currently using these materials in our autonomous robotics unit, where students program robots to detect edges, measure distance, and respond to their environment. During our \"Castle Crashers\" challenge, one group successfully used sensors to detect an edge and avoid falling while still completing their task—something that would not have been possible without these resources.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, their reaction was a mix of excitement and relief. They immediately recognized that this meant more opportunities to build, fewer delays from broken or missing parts, and more chances to experiment. We are now moving into more advanced challenges, focusing on sensor-based decision making, debugging strategies, and collaborative design work. Students are applying coding concepts like variables, conditionals, and sensor feedback while also working through the engineering design process—testing, debugging, and improving their designs.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and contagious. Many students who had never worked with robotics before were eager to jump in, explore the parts, and begin building right away. I heard comments like, \"We get to program real robots?\" and \"This is the best class ever!\" That initial excitement quickly turned into focused engagement as students began collaborating, solving problems, and taking ownership of their learning. Even students who are typically hesitant in academic settings have been fully participating and showing persistence when challenges arise.\r\n\r\nThese materials have allowed me to create meaningful, student-centered learning experiences that simply would not have been possible otherwise. Students are not just learning about technology—they are actively using it to think critically and solve problems. As we move forward, students will continue refining their programs, taking on advanced challenges like adding sensor-based decision making, improving efficiency, and even competing in small in-class challenges. We are also beginning to explore more complex builds and programming structures, setting the foundation for future robotics competitions and deeper STEM learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and giving them the opportunity to learn, create, and grow through hands-on technology.","fullyFundedDate":1768486442281,"projectUrl":"project/engineering-challenges-need-working-part/9927089/","projectTitle":"Engineering Challenges Need Working Parts","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dillard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7774016_orig.jpg?crop=2743,2743,x742,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1694129663155","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7774016"},{"teacherId":9913842,"projectId":9910276,"letterContent":"Thank you feels like such a small phrase compared to the impact you have had on our students, but it is where we must begin. The broom and push broom have helped students take ownership of our space by keeping the room clean and performance-ready, which has created a more respectful and focused learning environment. The new choir binders have been especially impactful—students feel more organized and professional, and rehearsals run more smoothly now that everyone has proper materials for their music.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting additions has been the cajon drum. Students were immediately drawn to it and couldn't wait to hear how it sounded. Seeing their excitement as they explored rhythm, experimented with patterns, and accompanied singing with the cajon was a memorable moment. It quickly became a favorite and helped students better understand pulse, rhythm, and ensemble playing.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. Many were eager to try the cajon right away, while others appreciated having clean, sturdy binders to hold their music. These resources made students feel valued and invested in their learning.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these materials as we build toward performances and class projects. The cajon will be used to support rhythm work and accompany songs, the binders will help students stay organized as we learn new repertoire, and students will continue taking pride in maintaining a clean classroom. The gravity well is a hands-on way for students to see, experience, and experiment with gravitational pull. Without the gravity well their understanding of gravity would only be conceptual, but with the gravity well their understanding is authentic and experience based.\r\n Students were so excited when they first saw the gravity well! They were eager to get their hands-on the tool and see what gravitational pull is for themselves. When I first showed the classes how to use the differently weighted spheres to simulate the different masses of celestial bodies- they gasped! The idea that two spheres of the same size could have such different impacts on gravity was shocking and intriguing for them.\r\n Each pair of student lab partners were able to select 3 spheres and experiment with how they all interacted at length. This gave them time to get their wiggles out with the excitement and then get down to some trials to see which sphere had the largest gravitational pull and make the connection that more mass equals more pull. This was so fun to watch as group after group discovered this. The vocabulary usage and conversations were something that I could have never attained without the usage of this great science tool!","fullyFundedDate":1758900112780,"projectUrl":"project/gravity-well/9735391/","projectTitle":"Gravity Well","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moody","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9747012"},{"teacherId":2844919,"projectId":9749394,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions of dodgeballs to our PE classroom!
