Through activities like embroidery, we are helping students build patience, focus, and confidence while also having meaningful conversations about hygiene, self-care, and how these habits support both physical and mental health. These lessons have created a safe space for the girls to open up, learn from one another, and understand the importance of taking care of themselves and others.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and genuine. They were incredibly grateful and thankful, and many could not wait to get started. Seeing their enthusiasm and appreciation was a powerful moment, and it was clear how much these resources meant to them. They truly felt supported and encouraged, knowing that others cared enough to invest in their growth and learning.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our students include expanding into cooking skills while continuing our focus on self-care and giving back to the community. The girls will be creating blankets for dogs and cats at the local humane society, allowing them to practice compassion and service. They will also begin learning how to crochet and make small trinkets, helping spark creativity, build new interests, and develop skills they can carry with them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1763498237113,"projectUrl":"project/building-sisterhood-building-futures-l/9757821/","projectTitle":"Building Sisterhood, Building Futures: Life Skills for Girls of Color","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Austin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10278572"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37802","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":536,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":32,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"26.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":37802,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hamlin Garland School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Hamlin Garland School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/milwaukee-public-schools/hamlin-garland-school/37802"}
