One of my 5th graders immediately asked, \"Wait, where does it plug in?\" When I told them they could take the tools anywhere in the room, the room erupted. They felt like they had been handed \"professional\" engineering tools, and their excitement to get to work was through the roof.\r\n\r\nWe have been putting these tools to the test immediately. A specific highlight was watching my 5th graders start their Cosmic Leap Space Colony project. In the past, this was a logistical nightmare with students huddled around the few power outlets we have, accidentally tripping over cords and knocking over their delicate space colony habitats.\r\n\r\nFor the first time, students were spread out across the entire lab. I watched one group collaborate on a massive nature room for their habitat, passing the wireless glue gun back and forth to secure the \"grass\" and dome for the structure. There were no tangled wires, no cord-length limitations, and most importantly, no frustration. They were able to focus entirely on the engineering challenge rather than the logistics of their tools.\r\n\r\nBecause they aren't tethered to a wall, they can move around their tables to glue without compromising their structures by moving them near the outlets. You haven't just given my students supplies; you've given them the freedom to build better. \r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1768429642727,"projectUrl":"project/stick-to-it-building-and-engineering-wi/10003062/","projectTitle":"Stick to It: Building and Engineering Without Limits!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gurule","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9214134_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y96&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711481419455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9214134"},{"teacherId":9214134,"projectId":9284017,"letterContent":"Your generous contribution was essential in bringing STEM curriculum to life for my third and fourth-grade students, particularly during our unit on open and closed circuits. The project kicked off with the students observing and playing with Hex Bug Nanos, which then inspired our main unit. The Buzzbot kits you funded allowed us to complete the exciting Buzzbot project, transforming abstract concepts into hands-on engineering. \r\n\r\nStudents first designed and built their own functional vibrating bots by successfully creating a closed circuit. This led to an exciting design phase where they experimented with different materials for the \"legs\" to test how variables changed the bot's speed and direction, even going so far as to create race tracks and obstacle courses to challenge their creations. The most inspiring part is the ripple effect: several students were motivated to build additional bots at home, teaching their siblings and parents how to make circuits, empowering them as young inventors. \r\n\r\nWe will be using these fundamentals to move into more complex wiring, challenging students with series and parallel circuit designs using lights and motors.
