Many of my 5th graders come to school carrying more than just backpacks, they carry big responsibilities, big emotions, and life experiences that require incredible resilience. Because of you, they now see themselves reflected in stories that honor their cultures, their families, and their lived experiences. These culturally responsive and SEL-focused books are helping us build more than reading skills, they are helping us build empathy, confidence, and a sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks like students pausing to say, \"That's like my family,\" or \"I've felt that way before.\" It looks like thoughtful discussions about characters navigating challenges, making hard choices, and finding their voices. Academically, we are strengthening skills like analyzing character development, identifying theme, and supporting our thinking with text evidence. But just as importantly, we are learning how to name emotions, practice perspective-taking, and talk openly about kindness, identity, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nSome of my students who once hesitated to pick up a book are now the first to grab one from our shelves. Seeing their excitement and watching them recommend stories to one another has been incredibly powerful. Your generosity has created moments of connection, healing, and joy in a space where students deserve to feel safe and seen every single day. Thank you for believing in them and investing in their stories.","fullyFundedDate":1764721252837,"projectUrl":"project/diversify-our-classroom/9891172/","projectTitle":"Diversify our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hullana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10348627"},{"teacherId":4175448,"projectId":9629229,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping me purchase new books and materials for my classroom and students. I will also enjoy reading the set of books for the beginning of the year when students arrive in August. \r\n\r\nIn addition to the books that you purchased, we also received some finger flashlights for reading time on flashlight Friday.
