From the very first day we unpacked the boxes, their excitement was contagious — smiles all around as they recognized the different tools and ingredients. Many of our students immediately wanted to start cooking, and it was such a joy to see them explore, touch, and talk about all the items we received.\r\n\r\nWe've already put these new resources to great use during our weekly cooking lessons. One of our favorite recent projects was making breakfast burritos. Each student took turns cracking eggs, measuring cheese, and rolling their burritos — practicing fine motor skills, following directions, and working together as a team. The pride on their faces when they got to eat something they made themselves was priceless. These materials have made it possible for all of our students to participate meaningfully and safely in the cooking process.\r\n\r\nNext, our class will be focusing on meal planning and grocery shopping skills. We'll be learning how to create simple shopping lists, identify items at the store, and compare prices — all important steps toward building independence. Your generous support has given our students the hands-on experiences they need to develop life skills that will help them far beyond the classroom. We have set up a small area in the classroom with the supplies you funded, and the students have put together the screen printing base. I am currently researching our options for \"burning\" the screens and trying to figure out what makes the most sense for creating multiple ideas in a seamless way in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe are researching methods and ideas, and planning what we want to create right now. and we are ABSOLUTELY working on getting it off the ground. My goal is to have about 20 students try it out by Christmas, and another 40-50 before the end of the school year. It is an incredible opportunity for the kids to be exposed to this style of art, and I am so grateful that you made it happen. We put most of it to use right away! Two students put together the shelf right when we got it, that allowed me to clean up the area around the kiln and get it better organized for student work. It has absolutely made a difference. \r\n\r\nWe will complete our semester clay unit this week, and the 6 new glazes have been invaluable! Students have glazed most of their pieces and I hope to fire the kiln this week and next week so they can take their work home. \r\n\r\nThe drying rack has helped me with a central location for drying paintings, increasing the calm and cleanness of the room. The students are starting a painting project as soon as their clay is complete and we will be using the drying rack AND the new paint paper. I have had students in the past who are deeply resistant to a required art elective, and wood burning has been a lifeline for those kids to start to enjoy art class and be proud of the work they create.\r\n\r\nThe increased number of wood burners has helped immensely. We are now able to keep each class creating wood art projects simultaneously.
