Your generosity has had a truly positive impact on every student who comes through my door.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have been used daily in every class. I now have enough for all students, allowing everyone to enjoy a focused, distraction-free environment. Students have noticed that the headphones not only help them concentrate on their tasks, but also serve as a visual signal to others that they are engaged and prefer not to be interrupted. This has encouraged stronger work habits throughout the class, as students see their peers striving to become better readers and writers.\r\n\r\nThe markers also arrived at the perfect time, as my previous set—nearly two years old—had begun to dry out. Students are now able to use the new markers during dry-erase board activities, to create blackout poetry, and to participate more actively on the classroom board.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making such a meaningful difference in our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1760447573351,"projectUrl":"project/some-peace-and-quiet/9751051/","projectTitle":"Some Peace and Quiet!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wagner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9241695"},{"teacherId":9991760,"projectId":9236188,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been filled with books that spark curiosity, courage, and creativity. These texts have introduced my students to big ideas like perseverance, problem-solving, and growth mindset. For example, After the Fall helped us explore how Humpty Dumpty overcomes fear and failure, which opened the door for conversations about resilience and trying again after setbacks. In The Most Magnificent Thing and Ish, students learned to recognize the difference between a character's momentary feelings and their deeper character traits like determination and creativity. These skills go beyond reading. These are the same traits my students now practice when writing about characters and using text evidence to support their thinking.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and lively. We read aloud together, pausing to share predictions and questions. Students work in pairs to discuss what characters might be feeling versus what traits they are showing, and they respond creatively by rewriting endings or acting out a scene to show how a character changes. These activities invite every learner in, whether they shine through speaking, drawing, moving, or writing, and they make reading feel like something we do together rather than alone.\r\n\r\nI've also seen students who are usually hesitant to read find a way in through these stories. One student who struggles with decoding was captivated when we paired the book with the animated short Piper. He connected Piper's persistence to Humpty Dumpty's journey and eagerly joined discussions he might otherwise avoid. Another student with a strong artistic side began sketching characters to capture their traits before writing about them, giving her confidence and structure in her work. Perhaps the most rewarding change has been hearing students naturally use new words like \"determined,\" \"brave,\" and \"creative\" in their everyday conversations. They aren't just reading books—they are finding language to describe themselves and the kind of people they want to become.","fullyFundedDate":1744235578625,"projectUrl":"project/reading-reflecting-writing-powerful-b/9236188/","projectTitle":"Reading, Reflecting, Writing: Powerful Books for Powerful Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nelson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9991760_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743813056463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9991760"},{"teacherId":9492048,"projectId":9203397,"letterContent":"Having a mindful serenity space in our library has become an essential part of middle school students' well-being and learning success. With these materials, students will engage in meaningful discussions, conduct research, and practice strategies that improve comprehension and vocabulary. Most importantly, the nonfiction books provide a bridge between classroom learning and the skills students need beyond school.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us make this possible. I know that was the weirdest request ever, BUT it accomplished two big goals:\r\n1. We stayed healthy this winter! I only had about 6 kids miss my class this winter, and a lot of the absences were for sports moreso than illness. Our computer screens did get kind of icky through it all (weird!), but the screen wipes took care of it! That's a win!\r\n2. The technology tools and materials have enhanced our learning environment. The Bluetooth has made listening a priority. Students have also used them when watching video clips, and those who may have missed out on part of instruction use them to catch up with class instruction upon their return. The classroom supplies have been used for modeling effective writing strategies. \r\n\r\nLearners especially have enjoyed the hands-on supplies. The grammar games have been a true hit. As students dive into complex plots, characters, and themes, they learn to analyze information, make predictions, and think critically about what they're reading. For instance, eighth graders are sharpening these skills with The Outsiders. These abilities extend beyond reading and support academic success across subjects, no matter a student's reading level.\r\n\r\nIn today's world filled with distractions like smartphones, social media, and video games, books offer middle school students a chance to develop focus and concentration. Reading requires sustained attention, and the more students read, the better they get at concentrating for longer periods. It's one of the many benefits that reading provides for their development.","fullyFundedDate":1730902052302,"projectUrl":"project/get-carried-away-with-books/8840992/","projectTitle":"Get Carried Away With Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. R.
