They read them during quiet reading time and are now part of the \"chapter book\" club =). Each week they come and change books with smiles on their faces. One student is falling in love with the series Jill Jet, another student is starting to realize what the right level book is for hime, his words were \"this is a great match for me\". How powerful!!\r\nDuring conferences some of my students parents expressed frustration that reading is a chore at home, children argue, break down, in general it is nothing enjoyable like reading can/should be. I've started sending books home with these students and reading time isn't torture. Parents can enjoy reading with their children, while students enjoy reading and feel successful.\r\nThe greatest thing is seeing students become more willing to read and finding a true love of reading. Reading books at their level is what we know striving readers need to continue to develop and you all have given this gift to my students. We also use the expo markers during our fundations time. They were happy to all have those erasable colored pencils. Our next steps are to continue and improve their writing skills.
