These supplies have given us another tool to utilize during learning activities. As a class, we are overjoyed with the extra supplies we received to use throughout the school year. \r\n\r\nEvery day, we are using the new whiteboards, markers and erasers during whole group math warm-ups and for showing our mathematical thinking. During reading and writing, we use the lap desks as an extra flexible learning space. Many of the books we use incorporate rhythm, melody, and storytelling, allowing students to experience music and literature together. These texts introduce skills such as pattern recognition, listening skills, comprehension, and sequencing. For example, picture books with repetitive phrases or rhyming words can help young learners identify patterns in music. Stories with rhythmic text can encourage children to clap or tap along, integrating movement and music into the reading process, enhancing both their auditory and kinesthetic learning experiences.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is interactive and hands-on. We often explore books aloud as a group, incorporating singing or playing instruments to emphasize certain parts of the text, like a beat or melody. Sometimes, students will participate in call-and-response readings, where they echo phrases or sounds, adding their own musical interpretation. Other times, students may create simple songs or rhythms based on the stories we read. The goal is to create an engaging environment where students connect with the text not only as a narrative but also through music and movement.\r\n\r\nSome students, particularly those who are more kinesthetic or auditory learners, are especially drawn to the new books. These students often respond to the rhythm and melody of the texts with enthusiasm, using instruments or their voices to mimic sounds from the story. Others who may struggle with traditional reading find the books more accessible because the integration of music and movement helps them engage with the material in a way that makes sense to them. These interactive books create a space where every student, regardless of their reading level, can participate and enjoy the experience.","fullyFundedDate":1735232396117,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-music-library-for-elementary/8946742/","projectTitle":"\"Building a Music Library for Elementary Classroom Engagement\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wehr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9258376_orig.png?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731089187308","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9258376"},{"teacherId":4835206,"projectId":8562415,"letterContent":"Unfortunately we weren't able to get the Happy Atoms Complete Set that the original project called for, but don't fret; those funds still went to good use! For my kindergarten and first grade students we are using magnet letters to create short words with predictable results (consonant vowel consonant) so they are learning how letters and letter sounds go together to create words.\r\nWe are also using our dry erase markers and erasers (which were a BIG hit) to extend our decoding knowledge into creating written words. The markers are so wonderful and it is fun to see them chose a color for the day. Some students choose the same color and some choose a different one each time they come to group. How wonderful to be able to give them that option!\r\nFor my older students we are using the Flair markers and Post-it notes for a variety of purposes. Some groups are using them to create groups of words with the same vowel sound, and others are using them to create sequence events so they can correctly answer questions and extend their writing.\r\nWe have also been using the Post-it notes to label articles around the room so that my students who speak another language as their first language have support for vocabulary development.\r\nI asked for (and I am so grateful for) the markers for students to use as I believe that students learn a lot from seeing their writing and instead of erasing, correcting the mistakes right new to the word. Brain research has shown that this supports students who are struggling with written concepts to see their thinking and then compare it directly to the correction.\r\nI am so very grateful for all of the material support but also for the caring person behind the materials!
