Students are enthusiastically designing and printing prototypes, experimenting with different materials, and watching their ideas come to life in vivid color and even glow-in-the-dark finishes. The excitement in the room is contagious: what started as sketch on paper becomes a tangible object they can hold, test, and refine.\r\n\r\nBeyond the \"cool factor,\" these projects are teaching valuable skills: engineering design, iteration, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Students are learning to plan, test, and revise their prototypes — sometimes going through several versions before they are satisfied — gaining perseverance, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of how design and engineering intersect. For many students, this is the first time they've had the opportunity to turn their creative concepts into functional 3-D objects.\r\n\r\nI've already seen growth not only in their technical skills, but also in their confidence and ownership of their learning. Students who were once hesitant to try hands-on or design-based projects are now asking to stay after class to continue printing, adjusting, and improving their designs. I hear more negative comments about projects from the students I work with. Sometimes we have to just get artists to sign their pieces and display them.\r\n The materials purchased were dedicated to creating more attractive display space within our building. My display space is limited but we are great at creating displays that are attractive to passer bys. That was the goal of my request.\r\n Students were happy and surprised that their art was out for display. Of course, I can tell them their art is worthy of public display. What was most impactful was comments to students by their peers. I heard back from viewers how much they enjoyed the artwork.
