Our students come back with a list of things to remember and can become overwhelmed. By having some resources like reeds and sterilizing spray, students can jump in without an issue. Reeds are always the first thing to break so having a stock available in the beginning of the year is so needed. A student came from out of district and was unfamiliar with the onboarding process. She had her clarinet but didn't have a reed that was still good from the previous year. With our resources, I was able to quickly get her what she needed and get her playing with the rest of the group. She felt like an outsider on the first day but since she was able to play with the rest of the band, she was immediately included. \r\nBecause my students came from elementary school and are new to the building, they were surprised to see so many resources. I got the impression they felt like they were in a more grown up environment than elementary school. \r\nOur next steps will be to teach the students continued respect for their instruments so they can last a long time.
