When we got the call from the office that the packages had arrived, you could feel the excitement in the air. Students were clamoring to be able to go down and deliver the packages to the classroom. All students gathered around my back table, and exclaimed over the games as they were unpacked from the boxes. We got started using them that very first day. \r\nSince each game helps to develop a new skill, students met with me in groups to learn how to play the games first. Students in my higher reading group were the most engaged and excited, they did not have anything \"fun\" to do during group time, since most of the activities that I had previously were geared toward lower leveled students. After students learned how to play the games, they began learning how to cooperate with one another, which was another goal of my project. There were definitely some arguments at first, but as they continued practicing and playing daily, the arguments ceased as they learned to solve their own problems and get along while engaging in learning the reading skills that each game required. \r\nAs time progressed, students began growing as readers, and were beginning to read grade level words that they previously struggled with. As a class, we are so thankful for the funding that allowed us to purchase these games and activities, and we look forward to growing further as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1769192011911,"projectUrl":"project/fidget-our-way-to-building-phonics-skill/9866993/","projectTitle":"Fidget Our Way to Building Phonics Skills!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Berg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10336993"},{"teacherId":9735742,"projectId":9098963,"letterContent":"Before receiving this gift, my students sat cramped and uncomfortable on a carpet much too small to accommodate all of them. I had to assign students to seats in chairs or on floor cushions to allow for everyone to sit comfortably. They were not fully engaged in their learning because they were so focused on the child next to them sitting too close, or the one on the cushion sliding all around the room.\r\nWhen I shared with the students that we were getting a new carpet with room for all of them to have a spot, they were absolutely thrilled! I showed them pictures and they immediately began buzzing about where they wanted to sit. Having this carpet has transformed our classroom completely.
