This project was truly a gift on many levels for my students and classroom. From the moment the boxes arrived, my students eagerly got to work! In a life skills classroom, every moment is an opportunity for growth and learning, and this was no exception. Each student had a specific role, whether unboxing the items or organizing them in their proper places, fostering both independence and teamwork.\r\n\r\nThanks to the supplies funded through this project, we have been able to conduct robust cooking activities on a biweekly basis. One of my proudest moments was organizing our Friendsgiving event. We partnered with another self-contained classroom the week before Thanksgiving, and my students took charge of all the desserts. Each student played a key role in preparing cupcakes, brownies, and cookies. They also wrapped silverware, set place settings, and helped with setup and cleanup. The event was a true collaborative effort, involving Speech and Occupational Therapist professionals, while incorporating functional, life, social, and communication skills. The cooking and baking supplies you provided made this incredible event possible and such a roaring success! During the event, one of my student's said, \"This is the best Friendsgiving EVER!\" Thank you for helping us create such meaningful and memorable experiences.\r\n\r\nWe have continued our cooking lessons to include small activities making trail mix before a movie or more involved scenarios such as cooking Potato Pancakes during our Hanukkah unit. Having a stockpile of cooking and baking supplies has made these meaningful experiences possible. I do not need to scramble to find items each week or ask parents to contribute monetarily. \r\n\r\nThis is my first year in this role, and as with any new beginning, the first year can be challenging. However, your generosity has been instrumental in making the first half of my year a success. My students are engaged and thriving, families are excited about the progress their children are making, and our administration has praised the accomplishments of my classroom!\r\n\r\nI'm eager to continue pushing my students to grow in independence and take on new, exciting challenges that will enhance their functional living skills.
