Thanks to your support, our eager third graders are diving into high-interest chapter books like Trouble, Fraction Trouble, The BFG, The One and Only Ivan, The Chocolate Touch, and Saving Winslow. These stories are opening doors to patience, curiosity, and deep thinking in a fast-paced world.\r\nWhat skills are students learning?\r\nThrough activities like Dialogue Detective and Final Character Profiles, students are discovering how characters grow and change, how dialogue reveals feelings, and how perspective shapes a story. They're learning to slow down, think critically, and appreciate the layers of meaning in every chapter.\r\n\r\nWhat does reading look like in our classroom?\r\n\r\nIt's interactive and joyful! Students work independently, with buddies, and in small groups. They predict, analyze, and even rewrite scenes from different viewpoints. Visual learners shine with character charts and creative sketches, while discussion brings the room alive with curiosity and excitement.\r\nWho's loving the new books?\r\nOne student who used to rush through reading now says, \"I never noticed how much a character's words can show what they're feeling!\" Another math enthusiast connected deeply with Fraction Trouble, proudly sharing how the character's struggles reminded him of his own. Animal lovers are captivated by Saving Winslow, eagerly tracking the bond between the boy and his donkey.\r\nThese books aren't just stories—they're tools for building empathy, patience, and critical thinking. Using them at my small group teacher table adds an extra element that makes the work more exciting and engaging. Some of my students who need extra movement time at their desks have also benefited. And they also make great incentives for getting work done and being on their best behavior, since being able to sit in a wobble stool is also a reward for many of them.\r\nMy students were absolutely thrilled when the stools came in. I quietly set them out around my teacher table the night before, and when the students came into the classroom the next day they had a chance to see the surprise and interact with the stools to understand how they worked and if they liked them or not. They were an absolute hit!\r\nFrom here, I plan to add more flexible seating opportunities to my room with things like cushions, rugs, and other interactive chairs and tools.
