They were excited when we started getting the materials delivered to our classroom. They came in many different orders, so it was always a surprise to see what kinds of things we were getting in. One project or activity that the students love is the playing cards. I originally was thinking Math games with these cards, but the students love practicing cardistry which has to do with shuffling, riffling, etc. The cards seem to have a calming effect on the kids which is kind of like a fidgety toy for them. The cards also helps with their hand-eye coordination. They look forward to when we bust the cards out and we also do use them for brain breaks and Math games. \r\n\r\nWe are so lucky to have been funded with these great items. The students are interested in music, so of course we have been playing and experimenting with sounds and rhythms which has led me to possibly think about doing an after school music program. I am not trained in music, but I can play some things and I would love to pass this knowledge and gift on to the young learners. I am think of next year to play around with some kind of program, but we'll see what happens. The materials have opened all kinds of possibilities and ideas to influence our keiki (children) in our school and community in Hawaii.","fullyFundedDate":1771784014724,"projectUrl":"project/music-games-and-fun/10110712/","projectTitle":"Music, Games, and Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Sanchez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8842676"},{"teacherId":8249855,"projectId":9935790,"letterContent":"My students absolutely love the play tunnels and tents! We alternated the tunnels with balloons so my students would keep interested in both of them.\r\n\r\nThe rain sticks, motion tubes, alphabots, and numberbots were also a HUGE hit. My students were asking for them as soon as they saw the boxes on the table! When my students first saw the sensory bins, fidgets, and colorful craft items, they immediately gathered around, eager to touch, explore, and create. We've already used the materials during small‑group centers, where students practiced fine motor skills with tweezers and tongs, sorted colors and textures, and used sensory tools to calm their bodies before transitioning to new activities. One of my favorite moments was watching a student who often struggles with self-regulation choose a sensory tool independently and proudly say, \"This helps me feel better,\" showing just how meaningful these resources are in their daily routines.\r\nThese materials have also opened the door to new learning opportunities. We've begun a feelings-identification project where students use emotion cards and mirrors to practice naming their emotions, and the craft supplies have helped them create \"feelings faces\" to share with the class. The healthy snacks have supported students during long learning days, helping them stay focused and energized during lessons and play. Our next steps include expanding our social-emotional lessons by creating a \"Calm Corner\" where students can use the sensory tools, books, and visuals to practice self-control and kindness.
