I shared the items with the students and let them explore and experiment in groups before determining who they were going to work with and what circus act they were going to develop. \r\n\r\n2. Students then planned their acts, including what they were going to do, with what, and who their characters were! \r\n\r\n3. Then students rehearsed their acts over and over and over, receiving feedback, making sure to apply that feedback to get better and better each time. \r\n\r\n4. Finally, students dressed up and performed their circus (The Circus of Wonders) in front of their peers and family members. Some acts including - juggling, jump roping, hula hooping, plate juggling, clowning, and dancing. \r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your support. And because of this experience, the 5th graders were excited and ready to go when I suggested they do another performing unit with a full-fledged performance on the stage at the end of the year. \r\n\r\nI saw so much creativity come to life in my students through their engagement with the stories and cultures in this project. The scripts that were 1) a little easier to understand than Shakespeare's language and 2) translated his work into Spanish, were also hugely important to the group's work before the show. \r\n\r\nAfter seeing the play (which the students now knew well!), students got into small groups for self-guided projects to further their interests. Some people chose to study the Globe Theatre and used the books from the project.
