Through hands-on service, they are learning the importance of community responsibility while directly meeting urgent needs within our local homeless population and homeless veterans. Students took ownership of this project by thoughtfully assembling 180 backpacks filled with food, hygiene products, and clothing items, understanding that these basic necessities can provide comfort and dignity during difficult times. Each backpack represents far more than supplies; it represents hope, respect, and a reminder that someone cares and sees their worth. By expanding the project to include homeless veterans, students also gained a deeper appreciation for service, sacrifice, and gratitude. These incentives are being used to recognize students who consistently engage in their daily i-Ready Math and Lexia Reading interventions. Each student set a personalized goal aligned with their learning plan, and the new rewards have transformed how they approach their work. Every time they meet their weekly goals, they earn a token to exchange for a small prize—creating a fun, motivating system that reinforces their commitment.\r\n\r\nOne moment that truly stood out was when a student who often struggled with focus proudly announced, \"I did my Lexia goal four days in a row—I get a prize today!\" The excitement and pride on their face were priceless. This student, who has an IEP and usually needs frequent redirection, took full ownership of their progress. That small candy wasn't just a treat—it was a celebration of resilience, consistency, and a shift in mindset. These moments are happening more frequently now, and the classroom culture has grown more positive and purpose-driven because of it.\r\n\r\nThe reactions were pure joy and wide-eyed excitement. Students eagerly peeked into the prize box and started asking, \"What do I need to do to get that?\" It sparked immediate conversations about goal-setting and accountability. For many of my students, especially those with IEPs who face daily academic and behavioral challenges, seeing tangible recognition of their effort made them feel seen and valued. They felt like their hard work mattered—and that feeling is powerful.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue strengthening students' ability to self-monitor and reflect on their growth. We're building \"progress portfolios\" where students track their intervention usage and success over time. They are learning to chart their own data, reflect on challenges, and celebrate progress. This connects directly to their IEP goals and builds essential life skills—goal-setting, self-discipline, and perseverance. Thanks to you, my students are developing a strong foundation for independent learning and long-term success.","fullyFundedDate":1737513013880,"projectUrl":"project/rewards-for-my-dedicated-learners-reachi/9074735/","projectTitle":"Rewards for My Dedicated Learners Reaching Their Goals!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Maricel Bustos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5100128_orig.jpg?crop=1207,1207,x0,y32&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724205384081","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5100128"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64926","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":83,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.8,"schoolId":64926,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodmore at Meadowbrook Elementary on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Woodmore at Meadowbrook Elementary","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/prince-george-s-county-public-schools/woodmore-elementary-school/64926"}
