From the moment the materials for this project arrived, students couldn't contain their curiosity and excitement. Watching chickens grow from egg to chick will be an unforgettable experience for the first graders of last year and in future years as it becomes part of the school culture.\r\n\r\nWe partnered with local farmers who donated eggs from their flocks, some fertilized and some unfertilized. Students were able to place the eggs into the incubator, where they would develop for the next 21 days. Through your generous donations, the students studied what was occurring within the egg each day through a set of educational mode eggs and they watched the calendar closely for when the chicks would emerge! \r\n\r\nWe used a candling light to observe which eggs were developing during the weeks, and we read informational texts to learn more about the chicken life cycle. Finally in May, 4 chicks hatched and they were adored greatly. The first graders named them Stitch, Pikachu, Hopscotch, and Sonic. \r\n\r\nWith your one gift, you gave the resources we need for years to come. I can't wait to continue this learning tradition with our Post Franklin family!
