I give students \"prize points\" for each AR test they take amd score at or above 85%. Students have a whole menu of items and privileges from which they can spend their points, and prizes dispensed through the vending/gum machines are by far the most popular! My students ask about their AR progress each week and are eager to spend their points using the vending/gum machines. \r\n\r\nThe novelty of the vending/gum machines has kept students motivated and they continue to read for Accelerated Reader and earn prize points through taking online quizzes and showing their comprehension. Students from classes that I don't teach, stop me in the hallway and ask to come and visit the machines. \r\n\r\nThank you for providing materials to help motivate students to read. This repeated practice has shown with increased reading levels as documented from STAR reading tests each nine weeks.
