Many students went above and beyond when it came to creating things, such as going all-out in making science-themed Valentine cards. It also made a noticeable difference when we received the vehicle wheels, as the efforts students were putting into creating their own wheels out of cardboard, bottle caps, etc, were not working out as hoped!\r\n\r\nThe rock hand samples have been great for both my Physics and Geoscience classes. Geo is obvious, but even in Physics I have been able to discuss how light waves, magnetism, and other physics concepts work in relation to rock formations and appearances. \r\n\r\nAs for the yoga balls--the students who needed them the most for bouncing out energy, noticed them immediately and requested to use them in class. Having somewhere to direct their energy so that they can focus on learning and other tasks at hand has been incredibly useful. When the materials arrived, my students were immediately curious and excited to set them up. The Light Houses became the centerpiece of our Wisconsin Fast Plants investigation, and they allowed us to observe real genetic patterns in a way we've never been able to before.\r\n\r\nStudents collected data from their plants and were able to identify the classic 9:3:3:1 phenotypic ratio in their own results (a powerful moment where textbook genetics became something they could actually see). We also used the Light Houses to carry out an artificial selection project, and students successfully shifted a trait across generations by choosing specific parent plants.\r\n\r\nOur next step is using the Large Post‑it Notes to build group models that explain how genes, traits, environment, and selection all interacted in their plants. These models will be shared in a gallery walk so students can compare results and refine their explanations.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made this hands‑on, authentic science experience possible. The impact of these materials was immediate and profound, serving as the primary engine for our recent architectural design charrettes. Watching our classroom transform into a professional studio environment was truly inspiring, and it was made possible entirely through your support.\r\n\r\nThe combination of trace paper, Sharpies, and highlighters proved to be the perfect toolkit for professional-grade spatial communication. Rather than getting bogged down in the rigid perfectionism of a single floor plan, students used rolls of trace paper to layer their thoughts, allowing them to \"sketch over\" existing footprints and visualize three-dimensional massing in real-time. This fluidity was essential when working with our professional mentors; it turned a simple conversation into a dynamic workshop where design ideas could be tested and discarded at the speed of thought.\r\n\r\nWith the guidance of these professionals, students didn't just stop at their first draft. They used Sharpies to define bold structural lines and highlighters to call out solar orientation and circulation paths, creating multiple design iterations that allowed them to fine-tune their final concepts with a high level of sophistication. These supplies acted as a vital bridge between student creativity and professional expertise, facilitating a meaningful dialogue that taught our students how to communicate like the architects of tomorrow. We've been using the markers, colored pencils, and other supplies for a variety of activities, from visual note-taking to group projects and classroom discussions. One memorable moment was during a collaborative activity where students created visual representations of key concepts, using color and design to organize their thinking. It not only helped them better understand the material, but also made their learning visible in a way that sparked deeper conversations among their peers.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were genuinely excited. Having access to these supplies gave them a sense of ownership over their work and encouraged more participation, especially from students who don't always speak up. Something as simple as having the right tools helped shift the energy in the room—students were more engaged, more willing to collaborate, and more confident in expressing their ideas.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support a wide range of classroom activities and projects. My students actively engage with several pieces of literature in my class. The majority of them are older works of literature from the literary canon and are wonderful pieces of literature. However, the one thing most of them don't do is provide a modern reading experience that sparks their love for reading. \r\n Over the last few years, I have been able to teach both Poisonwood Bible, The Kite Runner, and other meaningful literature in my classes. While they are fantastic books that create complex experiences with rich themes and characters, there are only two to choose from.\r\n Now with my new book, The Nickel Boys, I am able to create a modern literary experience for my students. They will be able to read literature from a more diverse set of authors and backgrounds. This novel will provide my students the ability to reflect on societal issues and trends and look at real-word problems. Most of my students will read what is expected of them, but these novels provide a stronger motivation to read and will, hopefully, foster a true love for reading. \r\n I work hard to prepare my students for the AP exam, but I do not often get the chance to simply let them read and experience literature. The Nickel Boys along with The Kite Runner and Where the Crawdads Sing will \"cultivate their understanding of literature through reading and analyzing texts as they explore concepts like character, setting, structure, perspective, figurative language, and literary analysis in the context of literary works.\" (AP College Board) AP College Board fosters an open-mind approach to literature through the study of different nationalities, cultures, religions, races, and ethnicities. (AP CB correspondence) Because of this, I am passionate of the literature I get to teach my students, and I am excited that I get to offer them yet another title to read.\r\n Thank you again for supporting my request. It means the world to my students who have already giggled with joy after hearing that I was funded to get them another piece of literature and the ability to allow them to create their own literary circle of discussion. \r\n Next year, I'm hoping to teach The Nickel Boys to all of my classes.","fullyFundedDate":1768505412016,"projectUrl":"project/reading-modern-lit-in-ap-lit-is-a-must/10016033/","projectTitle":"Reading Modern Lit in AP Lit is a MUST!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shriner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10402946"},{"teacherId":7860909,"projectId":9994320,"letterContent":"I am incredibly grateful for the generous grant provided through the Department of Education. Because of your thoughtful contribution, we were able to provide mental health kits to students and offer meaningful stress management opportunities that are already making a positive impact.\r\nHope Week is centered on promoting connection, resilience, and mental wellness. For many students, it can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to taking care of their mental health. The mental health kits you helped fund provided that starting point. Each kit was thoughtfully assembled with items designed to encourage self-care, grounding, and emotional regulation. From stress-relief tools to encouraging messages, these kits gave students something tangible to hold onto during overwhelming moments.\r\nThe response from students has been incredibly positive. Many shared that they felt seen, supported, and valued. Some students expressed that simply receiving a kit reminded them that their well-being matters and that there are people in their community who care about how they are feeling. For others, the items inside have already become part of their daily routines, whether that means using breathing cards before a test, journaling to process emotions, or keeping a calming tool in their backpack for stressful moments throughout the day.\r\nIn addition to the mental health kits, students are especially excited about the upcoming yoga sessions focused on stress management. Adolescence comes with academic pressure, social challenges, and the ongoing task of discovering identity and purpose. Providing students with healthy coping strategies, such as guided movement and mindfulness, equips them with lifelong tools to manage anxiety and regulate stress. Yoga offers a space for students to slow down, breathe intentionally, and reconnect with themselves in a supportive environment.\r\nMany of our students have never participated in yoga before, and they are genuinely looking forward to trying something new that promotes both physical and emotional wellness. Your funding has made it possible to bring this opportunity directly to them, removing barriers and ensuring access for all students who wish to participate.\r\nYour generosity does more than fund supplies or sessions. It sends a powerful message that our community believes in the importance of mental health and is willing to invest in proactive, preventative support for young people. Because of you, our students are learning that asking for help is brave, caring for themselves is important, and stress can be managed in healthy ways.\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your partnership and commitment to student well-being. Thank you for helping us create a Hope Week that truly lives up to its name. Your support is making a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1768771633082,"projectUrl":"project/mind-body-balance-tools-for-student-s/10036074/","projectTitle":"Mind, Body, Balance: Tools for Student Self-Care and Stress Relief","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Owens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8109236"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61471","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1198,"numTeachers":58,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":16,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":61471,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Advanced Technologies Academy on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Advanced Technologies Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/advanced-technologies-academy/61471"}
