With that support, the student was able to decompress, talk through their feelings, and successfully return to class ready to learn. Moments like this show how powerful it can be to give students appropriate tools to manage emotions in a healthy way.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were excited and curious—but more importantly, they felt seen. Many students immediately recognized the tools as supports for calming their bodies or staying focused, and they took ownership in using them appropriately. The visual timers have been especially helpful in helping students understand transitions and expectations, reducing anxiety and frustration throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support students during behavior check-ins, small group interventions, and moments when students need a safe space to reset. One bookshelf zone focuses on Social-Emotional Learning, including soft book character plushies, feelings-focused activities, and materials for a \"calm down\" corner. The other bookshelf is a workhorse, housing paper trays for me, book bins for my kindergarteners, and some art supplies.\r\n\r\nThe kids were so excited when they walked into the library to see these new areas!
