This project has transformed our STEM classroom into a true maker space where students can bring their ideas to life.\r\nWhile technology at home is often for entertainment, the iPad and 3D printing filament serve as professional-grade tools in our classroom. Students aren't just consuming content; they are using the tools to seeing their digital concepts turn into physical objects. This teaches them the \"why\" behind engineering and the patience required for the iterative design process.\r\nThe most exciting part for the students is the blend of high-tech and hands-on creation. Having a steady supply of 3D filament alongside \"low-tech\" essentials like scissors, hot glue, and craft materials means there are no limits to their creativity. They love that they can prototype a bridge with craft sticks and then print a custom-designed joint or bracket to make it stronger.\r\nA few of my students who typically struggle have completely come alive with these new resources. This material has given these students a way to demonstrate their brilliance through building and problem-solving, boosting their confidence across all subjects.","fullyFundedDate":1768671634073,"projectUrl":"project/steam-team-wp/10024567/","projectTitle":"STEAM Team @WP","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5085171_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y115&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705943245975","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5085171"},{"teacherId":9968730,"projectId":10016240,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our project, \"Bringing Science to Life Through Video and Podcasting.\" Your contribution has made it possible for me to integrate technology in ways that truly transform how students learn. The camera donated in our classroom becomes a powerful learning tool—students are not just consuming content, they are creating it, the highest form of thinking-creation. By recording experiments and producing podcasts, students are able to revisit their observations, reflect on their thinking, and clearly explain scientific concepts using accurate vocabulary. This process deepens their understanding and allows them to engage with science in a more meaningful and lasting way.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about this new technology is the opportunity to become creators and storytellers. They love using the camera and audio tools to document experiments, explain scientific phenomena, and share their findings with an authentic audience. Learning no longer stops at completing a worksheet—instead, students take ownership of their work as they script, film, and present their ideas. The combination of science and media production has sparked enthusiasm, especially among visual and auditory learners, making complex concepts more accessible and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nI have also seen particular students truly thrive with this innovation—especially those who may not always excel through traditional methods. Some quieter students have found their voice through podcasting, confidently explaining ideas they might hesitate to share aloud in class. Others who are highly creative have embraced video production, demonstrating deep understanding through visuals and storytelling. Your generosity has opened doors for all learners to shine, build confidence, and see themselves as both scientists and creators. Thank you for making this transformative experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1768570045158,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-science-to-life-through-video-a/10016240/","projectTitle":"Bringing Science to Life Through Video and Podcasting","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Aguilar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9968730_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753825237183","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9968730"},{"teacherId":8121526,"projectId":9994339,"letterContent":"Funding my project: \"Operation: Seniors Read\" has been a welcome challenge for my English 102 class. Students were apprehensive to read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson because it is a novel and it deals with topics that they don't feel are relevant to their life. But, I assigned it anyway knowing that it IS relevant to their life. I encourage them to close read a specific chapter by assigning an infographic project which required them to interact with the text and themes and identify the relevance or connection to their own research topics.\r\n\r\nThe finished products were exceptional (as evidenced in the images) and most students reported that they enjoyed the book more than they initially imagined they would. Some students expressed that the book was \"eye-opening\" and redefined what it means to have mercy on someone. One student in particular expressed that the book reignited their \"passion to become a social worker...working in a prison and aiding people almost like Stevenson did\". \r\n\r\nOverall, my students expressed gratitude for the reading experience and exposure to systemic and racial issues. Many reflected on their stance towards capital punishment and the death penalty. In the end, I gave students the option to keep or return the book since many of them annotated throughout their reading. Of the 19 I handed out, only 2 were returned which shows that they truly value the book, its lessons, and the opportunity to own the novel. So, once again, I thank you for the donation.","fullyFundedDate":1768180573142,"projectUrl":"project/operation-seniors-read/9994339/","projectTitle":"Operation: Seniors Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8121526"},{"teacherId":9348203,"projectId":10002169,"letterContent":"Again, I want to thank you so much for your donations to my classroom. The project afforded the students the opportunity to really narrow down their interests and skills and match real careers with those interests and skills. They did much research to then choose their top career path and that is what they did their project on. They were so proud to present their projects to their classmates.\r\n\r\nThe vision boards allowed students to practice goal setting and create a visual model of their goals that they can now hang on their walls and be reminded each day of what they are striving to achieve. Through these activities, they are practicing essential life skills like following multi-step directions, problem-solving, communication, and even basic business concepts like product creation and presentation. One of the most special moments was watching my students design and apply their own labels; seeing their names and work come to life brought a level of pride and ownership that is hard to put into words.\r\n\r\nWhen the students were first introduced to the Cricut, their excitement was immediate and contagious. Many of them had never seen or used a tool like this before, and their curiosity quickly turned into motivation. Students who are often hesitant or need extra support were eager to participate, ask questions, and try something new. The smiles, laughter, and sense of accomplishment filled the room as they realized they could create something meaningful and functional. It was more than just a new tool; it became an opportunity for confidence-building and self-expression.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are excited to expand this project by incorporating the Cricut into more real-world applications. Students will continue to create items for our Fridays Café, including menus, labels, and promotional materials, while also exploring opportunities to develop small student-led projects that build independence and teamwork. The carry bags have also helped students learn responsibility by properly storing and caring for their equipment after each class.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps include building more advanced routines and preparing for school and community performances.
