Thank you so much for providing my 4th grade classroom with an abundance of new math resources, and new stools for our small group table. Your generous gifts have transformed our learning environment!\r\n\r\nThe boxes of math games and manipulatives all arrived on the same day. I chose to have the students help me unpack the boxes! They had no idea what the boxes contained, and upon opening, the classroom was filled with cheers, shouts, and even a few tears. For my class of 4th graders to realize that these brand-new gifts were for them was incredibly powerful. \r\n\r\nAfter I was able to create each individual math game bag for my students using the materials that you sent, the fun began. The end of the school year is the perfect time to keep learning going with math games. They almost forget they are still learning. The impact this has had on my first-grade students has been truly remarkable, and we have been incredibly excited to use these new resources in our learning.\r\nFrom the moment the hydroponic system was set up, my students were absolutely thrilled! When they first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They couldn't wait to explore the new setup and immediately began asking questions about how the system worked and what they would be able to observe.\r\nRight away, the students began interacting with the hydroponic system. They carefully planted seeds and made predictions about what would happen as the plants grew. As soon as the plants began to sprout, they were curious to see new varieties they had never heard of before, like \"wild cabbage.\" It was magical to watch their natural curiosity come alive as they discovered they could see the roots and witness different variations of leaves sprouting. Each day, they recorded observations about plant growth, water levels, and nutrient changes, which fostered their scientific skills of asking questions, making comparisons, and drawing conclusions. It's been amazing to watch them take ownership of the process as they learn to be responsible caretakers of the system, checking on the plants daily.\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments was when the students harvested their first crops of lettuce. They picked, cut, washed, and prepared enough to make a salad, and we all ate together in the classroom. It was a tangible, hands-on experience that connected their learning to something real and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThis project has not only enriched our science curriculum but has also encouraged teamwork, responsibility, and critical thinking. Your contribution has helped bring science to life in a way that is both interactive and engaging, giving these students a unique opportunity to explore STEM concepts in a hands-on environment.\r\nThank you again for your support. The step stool with handles has empowered students to safely access sinks and materials independently, building confidence in their daily routines. Our kids sensory table has become a central hub for hands-on exploration, where students practice fine motor skills, collaboration, and imaginative play. Tools like the magnetic letter tiles and the \"Unlock It! Number Match\" game have strengthened early literacy and math skills in a fun, interactive way, while the dinosaur activity wall busy board panels and soft & squeezy farm animals encourage problem-solving, creativity, and sensory exploration.\r\n\r\nOne especially memorable moment was when we introduced the bubble machine and musical light-up sensory toys during a structured sensory break. Students who often struggle with transitions were instantly engaged, smiling, and participating alongside their peers. The noise-reducing earmuffs and weighted washable sensory butterfly have been incredibly helpful for students who need extra support with regulation—allowing them to remain calm, focused, and ready to learn. When the materials were first revealed, the classroom was filled with excitement and curiosity. Students eagerly explored each item, and even those who are typically hesitant were drawn in by the inviting, hands-on nature of the resources.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to incorporate these tools into our daily lessons and centers. For example, students will use the magnetic letter tiles to build simple words connected to our current reading themes, while the sensory table will support themed investigations tied to science and storytelling. We also plan to expand our use of sensory supports during group activities to help all learners stay engaged and successful. Thanks to these resources, our classroom is becoming an even more inclusive, dynamic environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1768507636520,"projectUrl":"project/ms-b-pre-k-discovery-den/9989020/","projectTitle":"Ms. B Pre-K Discovery Den","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bernal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9359672_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768155437324","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9359672"},{"teacherId":10403838,"projectId":10018425,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. The carpet, pillows, bins and cart you donated have helped us stay organized, comfortable and focused! Before your donation came, we had supplies in random bins, unorganized and hard to find. Now, because of the bins and the rolling cart, we are able to have organized and labeled supplies which allows better accessibility to materials for students, and limited disruptions while trying to get new materials. Rather than students being unsure where to go and find materials, they are now labeled and organized so it is much easier for them when needed supplies, or math manipulatives, depending on what activity we are working on. \r\n\r\nWe are also so appreciative of the carpet and reading pillows! The students are able to sit on the carpet for read alouds, morning meetings, dismissal meetings, and other activities involving the whole group. They actually have space on the carpet which has limited disruptions, arguments and allows for more focus during lessons. Students are also a lot more comfortable with the pillows and the carpet, rather than sitting on the hard floor. They love when they get to sit around the room with the pillows to read, work on independent work, or just earn a pillow day as a reward! Overall, it has been awesome to have more comfortable seating options for the students. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for this kind donation to our classroom! When the boxes first arrived and we unpacked the number lines, magnetic tiles, Cuisenaire rods, and the materials for our new math tool folders, the students were genuinely excited. Students were asking when we get to use the manipulatives. It was such a rewarding moment to see them realize that these weren't just \"toys,\" but tools that would help them conquer some of our toughest topics. Your generosity has turned our math block into a more hands-on experience where making mistakes feels like a natural part of the discovery process rather than a setback.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the resources to great use during our fraction units. Students who had been struggling with benchmark fractions were able to get a lot of practice using the fraction number lines. When learning about equivalent fractions, students used the newly created math tool folders to build a fraction wall. I watched a group of students who had been struggling with the abstract \"multiply the numerator and denominator\" rule finally have a lightbulb moment. By physically overlaying the 1/4 tiles onto the 1/8 tiles, they could see the relationship for themselves. Students would tell each other, \"Look, it takes two 1/8ths to fill the same space as 1/4!\" instead of just guessing at numbers. They could see the relationships for themselves and were able to explain their thinking to each other using much more confident math vocabulary. It's been incredible to see their independence grow as they reach for these tools to solve problems on their own.\r\n\r\nIn the future when calculating the volume of irregular shapes, the color tiles and magnetic tiles you provided will be the stars of this project where students can build \"cityscapes\" and calculate the total volume of their structures. This hands-on practice is essential for moving them beyond memorization and into a true, lasting understanding of spatial reasoning. Thank you for investing in these young mathematicians and for helping them see that they can tackle any challenge that comes their way.","fullyFundedDate":1768768066500,"projectUrl":"project/manipulatives-for-5th-grade-math-dominat/10000773/","projectTitle":"Manipulatives for 5th Grade Math Domination!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kaiser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7685976_orig.jpg?crop=2419,2419,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698939331427","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7685976"},{"teacherId":9363227,"projectId":9996745,"letterContent":"Board games have a positive impact on students in 1st–5th grade by supporting both academic and social development. Their eyes lit up, and they eagerly asked, \"Are those for us?\" The novelty of the materials quickly turned into genuine engagement as they realized learning would involve moving, building, and interacting rather than simply completing worksheets.\r\n\r\nOne especially powerful moment occurred during a small-group math lesson on place value. Instead of solving problems on paper, students were invited to come up to the whiteboard and build numbers using the magnetic base-ten blocks. The entire group became animated and enthusiastic. They eagerly volunteered for turns, carefully constructing hundreds, tens and ones while explaining their thinking aloud. What is typically a challenging abstract concept became concrete, visual, and exciting. The level of focus and participation was significantly higher than in previous lessons.\r\n\r\nIn literacy, students are using sand trays and wooden tracing boards to practice spelling patterns and letter formation, while whisper phones are helping developing readers build fluency and confidence. Next, we will deepen our current place value unit by using the magnetic materials to compare numbers and model regrouping during addition and subtraction. In reading, we will transition from tracing and building words to constructing full sentences with magnetic sentence strips, allowing students to physically manipulate and revise their writing.
