The materials provided allowed the students from pre k - 5th grade to create beautiful tulip art in varied mediums and learn the science behind the tulip's life cycle, the history of the Albany Tulip Festival, and how it impacts the local community, etc. \r\n\r\nTo get the community excited of the upcoming tulip festival our Tulip themed art, over 80 artworks have been displayed in the Albany City Hall historical building for a three week exhibit. The employees and a teacher commented after set up on the quality of work for such a young age and that it has brightened up the space.\r\n\r\nWe are so appreciative of the many uses of these resources and how they have a positive impact on the growth of our student's art techniques and styles, cooperative learning, and innovative mindsets. Students use the boards during math to model fractions, create number lines, and explain their strategies visually. The vertical format has been especially powerful for group problem-solving; everyone can stand to help the brain power flow, see each other's work, and revise ideas in real time.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments so far was during a multi-step word-problem \"gallery walk.\" Each group solved a different problem on their vertical board, then rotated around the room analyzing classmates' strategies. I watched students debating and adjusting their work with so much confidence. Students who typically hesitate on paper were diving right in because it felt safe to erase, rethink, and try again.\r\n\r\nWhen our students saw the boards, their faces lit up instantly. Several students actually cheered when they realized these weren't just \"teacher boards\", they were theirs to write on. A few immediately asked, \"Can we try them right now?\" The excitement and sense of ownership were huge.\r\n\r\nWe're now moving into a unit that requires lots of modeling and revising, multiplying and dividing fractions, so these boards will help students work through misconceptions in a hands-on way. They'll also be using them to build and explain their reasoning during math discourse routines. Looking ahead, I plan to introduce \"vertical station rotations,\" where students cycle through tasks for math, science, and even social-emotional learning. This flexible and comfortable seating allows the students to draw closely to the promethean board while watching a tutorial. It also allows students the flexible seating during instruction time while utilizing the promethean board, etc. \r\n\r\nWe began this yr with a read allow of The Dot by Peter Reynolds. Several students pointed out that our rug had dots on it while others also notice how it looks like a Kandinsky painting. The upper elementary grades then dug deeper into the uses of pointillism by Georges Seurat.\r\n\r\nWe are so appreciative of the many uses of these resources and how they have a positive impact on the growth of our student's art techniques and styles, cooperative learning, and innovative mindsets.
