Your kindness has truly transformed our reading space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages students to dive into books and immerse themselves in stories.\r\nBefore the bean bags, our reading corner lacked the comfort and coziness that makes it an enjoyable place for students to spend time. Now, thanks to your contribution, students have a comfortable and relaxing space to curl up with their favorite books. The bean bags offer a perfect balance of comfort and functionality, and have quickly become a favorite spot for students during independent reading time. They now have the freedom to choose a comfortable position while they explore new worlds through literature, helping them stay engaged for longer periods.\r\nThe impact of your donation goes beyond just comfort. The inviting nature of the space encourages more students to spend time in the library, promoting a culture of reading and learning. Whether it's for individual reading or group discussions, the bean bags foster a sense of community and connection among our students. They can now enjoy their reading experience in an environment that feels personal, safe, and enjoyable.\r\nYour support also helps reinforce the importance of giving back and shows our students the value of community. They are learning that kindness, generosity, and community involvement are key to making positive change. This gift has made an immeasurable difference in the lives of our students, and for that, we are deeply thankful.\r\nOnce again, thank you for your thoughtful donation. Literacy borders all aspects of written language, and spelling is directly linked to reading and writing skills. My students and I were able to use the magnetic letters to understand how words are built while including phonics, phonetics, and morphology. During our 1st usage of the magnetic letters, students were able to use prior knowledge and identify the color of a letter, and then apply the new skill of saying the letter in Spanish. As an extension to the activity, students enjoyed being challenged with the ability to independently build Spanish words with limited letters. \r\n\r\nWhen learning a different language, the concept of understanding will not be met until spoken language is developed. Using puppets in a language classroom allows students to apply their skills and direct their voice through the puppet. During our first activity, students used the puppets for greeting and introducing themselves in a presentational format. At 1st, students were excited to play pretend with the puppets. After modeling how conversations are made when using the puppets, students began to ask for dialogue to use. \r\n\r\nWhen I first introduced the magnetic letters to the students, they immediately began to search for letters to build their name. I allowed them to lead the activity for a moment, but later encouraged them to say the letters of their name in the target language. \r\nRegarding the puppets, students were excited to play pretend with the puppets. After modeling how conversations are made when using the puppets, students began to ask for dialogue to use. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students while using these project items would be a spelling bee and a puppet show. By the end of the school year, students should be able to spell Spanish words with the use of memorization and develop a script for a puppet show that will activate their presentational mode of communication.","fullyFundedDate":1723681909254,"projectUrl":"project/building-vocabulary-for-language-retenti/8575067/","projectTitle":"Building VOCABULARY for Language Retention","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9119799_orig.jpg?crop=1932,1932,x0,y322&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690483622083","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9119799"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3186","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":329,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.7,"schoolId":3186,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pathways Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Pathways Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/orange-county-school-district/pathways-elementary-school/3186"}
