The sensory room has been such an exciting addition for our students. It has given teachers a place to take students to get their sensory needs met and help them get regulated before a challenging part of their day. If we have a particular student who we know has a hard time transitioning from one activity or space to another the students can go to the sensory room beforehand to get regulated and ready for the next activity. For example, I have a student who gets very upset with transitions. This student goes to the sensory room multiple times a day. One of the times is before lunch. Though not perfect it has helped him/her with time in the cafeteria. Another student has a hard time doing any interaction/activities. After visiting the sensory room we have seen more success with his/her one on one participation. \r\n The students are getting used to the routine of the room. In the beginning they did not want to leave when the timer went off. One example, a student who previously had meltdowns at this time now hops right up puts their shoes back on and is ready to leave. This is a success! I look forward to the continued successes of our new super sensory space. These updated materials in the classroom have already been used by many little hands!
