These resources—from the heavy watercolor paper to the vibrant construction paper and endless glue sticks—have allowed me to stop being \"the gatekeeper\" of supplies and start being a facilitator of ideas. Whether students are building 3D models of the Waste Cycle to understand decomposition or designing intricate, light-up Valentine's circuits, they now have the freedom to experiment.\r\nA specific moment that stands out: During a recent project, a student wanted to see if they could create a \"moving\" river using liquid watercolors on construction paper. In a typical classroom, I might have said \"no\" because the paper would warp. But with these resources, I could say \"Yes.\" He experimented, saw the paper saturate, and then pivoted to using the thicker watercolor paper for the riverbed while using construction paper for the surrounding canyon. That moment of self-correction is where real engineering happens.\r\nHow students reacted:\r\nThe students' favorite part is the \"Open Media\" aspect. When they realized they didn't have to be \"stingy\" with the tape or glue, their designs became bolder and more complex. One 3rd grader remarked, \"It's like a real studio in here now.\" They treat the materials with more respect because they feel like professional makers, not just kids doing a craft. They aren't afraid to \"mess up\" a sheet of paper because they know that in this lab, a mistake is just a first draft.\r\nNext steps:\r\nOur next step is a deep dive into Environmental Engineering. Students will be using the Makedo tools and our mountain of paper supplies to build a \"Zero-Waste City\" prototype. Because of your generosity, these 520 students aren't just reading about the world—they are building, painting, and coding it into existence, one glue stick at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1762267487038,"projectUrl":"project/steam-studio-makerspace/9728565/","projectTitle":"STEAM Studio Makerspace","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Frost","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9204519_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1694486678713","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9204519"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_71568","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":367,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":12,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":65.7,"schoolId":71568,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oologah Upper Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Oologah Upper Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/oologah-talala-school-district-4/oologah-upper-elementary-school/71568"}
