One of our favorite activities has been setting up habitat exploration stations using the Lakeshore specimen centers, animal figures, and science viewers. Students rotated through stations, observed animals up close, sorted living and nonliving items, and worked together to decide which animals belonged in each habitat. They talked like scientists, by sharing observations, asking questions, and explaining their thinking to one another.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and genuine. Many gathered around asking, \"What is this?\" and \"Can I try it?\" Students who are usually quiet or hesitant were eager to participate, carefully holding specimens and using the viewers to look closely. Several students proudly said they felt like \"real scientists,\" and the materials instantly increased engagement and focus during our science block.\r\n\r\nAs we continue this unit, students will take their learning beyond the classroom by observing habitats in our school playground and nearby outdoor spaces. They will compare real-world habitats to the ones we created in class, draw and label what living things need to survive, and share their ideas through class discussions and simple science journals. These next steps help students connect hands-on exploration to real-life environments and deepen their understanding of how living things depend on their habitats.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this meaningful learning possible. Your support has helped turn curiosity into understanding and has given my students the opportunity to learn science through wonder, play, and discovery.","fullyFundedDate":1748384831518,"projectUrl":"project/zoom-in-science-is-all-around-us/9157168/","projectTitle":"Zoom In!
