Our classroom is now filled with a variety of quiet fidgets for students to use while they are listening to instruction, completing guided work, and/or completing independent work. These include squishy balls, finger rings, chair bends, pencil toppers, chewlry necklaces, pop its, and squishy animals. My students have also learned responsibility through this project. Students need to santize before choosing a fidget. They then use the coordinated pictures of the fidgets to put in their name slot. Students then are responsible for returning their fidget at the end of class. My students are thrilled and appreciative to have new fidgets to use because some of the students have a high level of need. Some of them are in constant motion with their hands and body, have anxiety, and/or have trouble focusing without doing something to keep their mind busy. Some of students feel that they feel calmer with a fidget and it is easier to learn while having one. It has definitely made an impact on our classroom!
