They've made an immediate and meaningful impact on my students. Within minutes of unboxing them, the kids were fully engaged in rhythm work in a way I haven't seen all year.\r\n\r\nThese drums hit a perfect sweet spot: small enough for young hands, high-quality enough to produce a clean tone, and quiet enough that we can use them without overwhelming the room. Because of that, I've been able to introduce percussion activities that were previously too loud or too chaotic with our traditional drums.\r\n\r\nThe rainbow mallets have been a huge hit (pun intended). The students love switching between hand-playing and mallet-playing, and the texture difference has let us talk about timbre in a hands-on way that actually sticks. We've used them for steady beat practice, drum play-alongs, call-and-response, beat anticipation games, and even simple student-composed rhythm patterns. My younger students in particular have found a sense of confidence with these instruments. They feel approachable, fun, and \"theirs.\"\r\n\r\nBecause they're not overpowering, I've been able to use them with large groups without losing control of the sound level. That alone has expanded what I can realistically teach. We've created class compositions, worked on ensemble skills, and developed the kind of focused listening that only happens when students are genuinely invested.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just add instruments to our shelf. It expanded the entire range of what's possible in our music room. These drums are being used constantly, and they've already become one of the most loved and most effective tools we have.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the chance to experience percussion in a way that is joyful, accessible, and high-quality. The impact is real, and we are grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1760693797512,"projectUrl":"project/bring-the-beat-hand-drums-for-every-you/9591829/","projectTitle":"Bring the Beat: Hand Drums for Every Young Musician","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mitchell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp407975_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y133&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1634673421491","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/artclasswithmrsmitchell"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16189","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":426,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":73,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.0,"schoolId":16189,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Thomas L Marsalis Elementary Steam Academy on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Thomas L Marsalis Elementary Steam Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/dallas-independent-school-district/thomas-l-marsalis-elementary-school/16189"}
