For a long time, our back kidney table was a bit of a struggle. With only three working stools, kids were either squishing together or trying to balance on wobbly seats, which made it pretty hard to focus on math or reading. Now that the new stools are here, that table is now way more productive! It's become the go-to spot where students actually want to be, and it's wonderful to see six kids sitting comfortably and safely while they collaborate on their projects.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, small group time is when the most important \"lightbulb moments\" happen. Having stable seating means that instead of wiggling around or worrying about a stool tipping, my students are leaning in to help each other with tough problems. Because of your support, our classroom turned into a full-blown engineering lab. Watching a student who usually struggles with traditional tests suddenly take the lead as a \"Solar Technician\" to help a friend fix a circuit was the highlight of my month.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the books Planet Power and Iqbal and His Ingenious Idea to talk about how big problems are solved with simple, clever ideas. My students were especially moved by Iqbal's story. The story helped them realize that the robots they were building weren't just toys, but tiny versions of technology that can actually help the planet. \r\nI have one student in particular who often feels frustrated when things don't work right away. Usually, he might give up, but with these solar kits, he became so determined to get his \"Mechanical Design\" just right. There is something so special about watching a group of kids realize that people they've never even met care about their happiness and their big feelings. We've already put our new books to work! My students have been obsessed with *What Should Danny Do?*, and it's been amazing to hear them shout out advice to the characters, essentially practicing how to be kind and thoughtful in real-time. These stories are helping them realize that they actually have the power to change the vibe of their whole day just by the choices they make.\r\n\r\nThe \"Calm Ball\" and our new Koala breathing pals have also been total game-changers. I have a few students who used to really shut down when they got frustrated or overwhelmed, but now, I see them advocate for themselves. Instead of a meltdown, they'll go grab a sensory fidget or sit with a Breathing Pal for a few minutes to reset. It's given them so much confidence to know they have \"tools\" to help them feel better. \r\n\r\nWatching them use these supplies to look out for one another has been the best part. I've overheard them telling each other, \"Hey, do you want to breathe with me and the Koala for a minute?\" or \"Remember what Danny did?\" You've sent my classroom a way to become a better, kinder little community. I now have essential tools to seamlessly integrate hands-on learning into every subject. The Magnetic Tiles and Wooden Blocks are invaluable technological tools that help my students understand complex concepts in engineering and geometry through tactile construction. This active experimentation is vital to how I teach them to approach challenges with an open mind, unlocking their potential as future scientists and engineers.\r\n\r\nThe new materials are most exciting to my students because they offer both creative freedom and engaging stories. The Magnetic Tiles are an instant hit, quickly turning our flexible learning zones into collaborative design studios where students work together to build complex 3D structures. Furthermore, the inclusion of The Wild Robot series in both English and Spanish has become the most beloved series on our shelves. They are inspired by Roz's problem-solving journey, leading to spontaneous discussions about artificial intelligence and survival. The Double Dice and Math Games have transformed skill practice from rote memorization into a fun group challenge. Meanwhile, the TPT gift card allows me to secure resources that directly align with my students' current interests whether it's a detailed lesson plan on planets sparked by Jupiter the Gassy Giant or a creative writing prompt inspired by our new books. Finally, the organizational tools, from the pencil pouches to the curtain rods, have created a clean, defined, and inviting space where my students feel proud and ready to discover. This active, high-stakes game play has replaced passive learning, allowing my students to see the immediate cause and effect of conservation decisions, which is exactly how I can cultivate the empathy and sense of responsibility I want for them.\r\n\r\nThe resources that my students find most exciting was this game! These books are powerful tools that offer stunning visuals and accessible narratives that help my students grasp complex ideas like biodiversity and our role in environmental protection. This gift has strengthened my teaching by providing a rich, shared experience that builds both literacy skills and a deep, lasting appreciation for the natural world.\r\n\r\nThe product that is most exciting to my students was the Over and Under series. They love getting to see the hidden worlds of the pond, the snow, and the canyon come to life. I have seen particular students, who were already interested in animals but struggled with longer texts, truly warm to these resources. This collection has empowered all my students to become curious explorers and responsible citizens of the Earth, fostering a sense of hope for the future.","fullyFundedDate":1746785467672,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-love-our-planet/9268251/","projectTitle":"Learning to Love Our Planet!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Eversole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7812843_orig.jpg?crop=516,516,x333,y158&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1651500882734","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-eversole"},{"teacherId":7812843,"projectId":9100856,"letterContent":"The new materials for improving reading comprehension have had an immediate and tangible impact in my third-grade classroom. This project, which provided me with a gift card for new resources, allowed me to select specialized books and activity sets that directly target key reading strategies like identifying cause and effect and recognizing themes. Before, I often had to rely on a limited number of materials for these crucial skills, which made it hard to differentiate instruction. Now, I have a wider variety of texts and engaging activities, which means every student can practice the same skill at their just-right reading level. These resources are helping my students to not just read words, but truly understand and connect with the stories.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect for the students has been the introduction of new, engaging texts that directly correlate with our science and social studies units. They are thrilled to make real-world connections between what they read and what they are learning in other subjects. I've noticed a particular warming to these materials from students who previously struggled with attention during reading time. Thank you so much for investing in these fundamental skills.
