Not surprisingly, the first-grade friends are enamored with it. At the moment, we keep in our classroom as it works and practice ignoring distractions. It is actually a wonderful, hard life skill! The first graders are actually doing a great job amid such excitement. Eventually, we will put in it a shared hallway in a glass case to mesmerize all learners in our building.\r\n\r\nI knew the printer would flex my learning muscles, and it has. A surprising benefit has been how the printer has helped broaden my professional community connections! Our school's IT specialist stops by when he is in the building to offer tips and tricks, as an owner of three 3-D printers. I have learned our art teacher collaborates with another art teacher who utilizes 3-D printers in his classroom. I have reached out to be inspired by him, too. These interactions have been a great reminder of how exhilarating collaboration can be when people share a passion.\r\n\r\nLastly, there is buzz about the school about our classroom's new treasure. I mentor a third grader who is learning to manage some big feelings, and feeling special when earning a 3-D print is helping him mold his behavior. Other young friends have also approached with inquiries about the printer. I look forward to using requests to build relationships and build their polite conversation skills in the process.\r\n\r\nI have truly been surprised at the positive impact the printer has had in my little education world. The shoe hanger is exactly one of those tools! In the past, students have kept headphones in their book buckets. This results in headphones being stepped on when book buckets tip, headphones being broken because books crush them, or losing headphones because they aren't easy for a teacher to manage in 15 different buckets. The shoe hanger is on the back of our classroom door functioning as a one stop shop for individual headphones. It really is priceless! At the end of the day, the student who is the technology specialist peeks to ensure all 15 headphones are there and they have remained utterly safe and have made more room for books in our book buckets!\r\n\r\nThe other priceless gift you gave was the JBL speaker. As an musical person, I think background music makes every environment more inviting. I've taken our speaker on field trips (as seen in our outdoor photo), I take it on playground and morning greeting duty, and I bring it to community circle. It is such a convenient way to play music we need for singing without standing up and walking 45 feet to push play on my computer. This luxury wasn't cheap, but it is a tool worth every penny. My students eagerly gather around these materials each morning, using them to practice identifying, counting, and writing numbers. I've watched hesitant learners become confident as they place numbers in order, trace numerals on magnetic boards, and proudly recognize letters they once struggled with. \r\nBecause of your support, they are developing the confidence and readiness they need for a strong start in kindergarten and tons. \r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their future. Friday Table Toppers is motivating to them in many ways I did not even anticipate! First, it has really helped with Friday attendance. The kids don't want to miss collecting their team pom-pom points and shopping for tiny treasures for their pencil box habitats. \r\n\r\nThe pom-poms have also given me an avenue to celebrate individual students. Awarding pom-poms is a great reminder to find the positive more consistently, without feeling like bribing children to be nice. \r\n\r\nSome other surprising things to come from Friday Table Toppers is that students are responsible to keep their pom-poms safe as they are collected through the week. If one gets thrown away with a lunch tray, that is a lesson learned. The kids are also making connections between science and Table Toppers, looking for essential items to add to an animals' habitat. We have even been exposed to coin names and values prior to our math program teaching them. Money and value has a very real-life meaning, now. And, finally, the students get to PLAY, just play for fifteen minutes every Friday with a variety of students. Their imaginations run wild. The other day, a group of students had animals attending a Taylor Swift concert! \r\n\r\nThe best thing to come from this new way to celebrate behavior is we haven't had any problems with things getting lost or stolen. This has really delighted (and surprised) me. Our class was really struggling with vandalizing others' things or taking things that did not belong to them. We had a big discussion before beginning Table Toppers about this. We came to an agreement that at the end of the school year, the students will get to choose item from their Table Topper pencil box to keep and take home. Therefore, I will get most items returned to use with next year's group of students. And, I most CERTAINLY will be continuing this fun teaching practice.","fullyFundedDate":1734896931742,"projectUrl":"project/helping-big-feelings-for-little-ones-who/8928721/","projectTitle":"Helping Big Feelings for Little Ones Who Love Little Things","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ekins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp232439_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472940630018","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ekins"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_68093","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":318,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":61,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":63.0,"schoolId":68093,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Star Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"North Star Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/salt-lake-city-school-district/north-star-elementary-school/68093"}
