We're currently in our poetry unit, so students have been using their new folders to keep all of their poems, drafts, and annotations neatly organized. Each period now has its own bin which has made transitions smoother and materials easier to find. A moment that really stood out was during a close-reading activity: students pulled out their folders, used their highlighters to mark figurative language, and concrete details using the Jane Schaffer method, and genuinely looked like confident, capable readers.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were so excited! They especially liked the white, sleek headphones—they immediately started using them for text-to-speech features to support their reading comprehension. The pencils were also a quiet but huge lifesaver for the students who often forget theirs. And the highlighters? They were a hit. Students loved using different colors to organize their ideas, especially as they begin preparing for their upcoming poem analysis.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will be diving deeper into interpreting poetry and writing a full poem analysis essay. These materials are helping them build consistency, organization, and confidence as they work through increasingly complex texts. Thanks to these resources, they have the tools they need to stay engaged, prepared, and excited about learning every day. My students and I are so grateful for your generosity and belief in our classroom. 💛📚","fullyFundedDate":1755882240835,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-thoughtful-readers/9593492/","projectTitle":"Tools for Thoughtful Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Barajas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8650844_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711386398213","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8650844"},{"teacherId":9467993,"projectId":8835357,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our classroom projects—the Rocket Lab and the Bread Rising Challenge. Your contributions brought hands-on learning to life in a way that inspired awe, excitement, and genuine curiosity in my students.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, you should've seen their faces light up! For many of them, this was their first experience working with real science and engineering tools. As we unboxed rocket-building kits and ingredients for our bread experiment, the classroom buzzed with excitement and endless questions. It was like opening a door to a whole new world.\r\n\r\nWe kicked things off with our Rocket Lab. Students collaborated in small teams to design, build, and test their own mini-rockets. They applied concepts of physics, aerodynamics, and teamwork, and watching their rockets launch sparked cheers and deep conversations about what worked and what could be improved. One student said, \"I never thought I'd be doing something like NASA in our classroom!\"\r\n\r\nThe Bread Rising Challenge connected science to real life in a delicious way. Students learned about fermentation, chemical reactions, and even the history of bread-making across cultures. It was messy, creative, and full of learning. A memorable moment was when a student exclaimed, \"So yeast is ALIVE?!\"—a perfect spark for deeper inquiry into biology and microbiology.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, we now have a foundation of curiosity and hands-on experience that will carry into future projects. Up next, students are designing experiments to test how different environments affect yeast growth—a direct extension of what they learned. Others are brainstorming how to improve their rocket designs with data they collected during launch trials.\r\n\r\nYour kindness didn't just provide supplies—it helped build confidence, creativity, and a love for learning. On behalf of every student whose eyes lit up with discovery, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1731304395264,"projectUrl":"project/science-bottle-rockets/8835357/","projectTitle":"Science Bottle Rockets","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9467993_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1708468051339","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9467993"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45905","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":70,"numTeachers":6,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":23,"percentLatinx":75,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.3,"schoolId":45905,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pace Alternative High School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Pace Alternative High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/wapato-school-district-207/pace-alternative-high-school/45905"}
