We write the words in play dough. By giving the children different methods to read, it really helps them retain the information so much better. Half of my class are English Language learners. This method really helps them reach their literacy goals. \r\n\r\nAnother activity we do with the play dough is through the use of elkonin boxes. For example, a student might write the word cat in three separate elkonin boxes. Then they make three balls os play dough. While saying each letter sound, they push their finger down on the ball, flattening it. Then we put all sounds together to read the word. Afterwards, the student will write the word on his/her own. This activity creates several opportunities to put the different phonological rules together to read a word.\r\n\r\nAlso, our snack drawer is always full! After working hard all day, we get to enjoy a delicious treat. \r\n\r\nWithout your generous help, none of this would have been possible.
